The Arc of Pennsylvania will be holding an Advocacy Day on May 5, 2026 at the State Capitol to advocate for state legislative and budget priorities. The day will begin with a press conference with speakers from the House and Senate, parents, and self-advocates. Following the press conference, participants will visit House and Senate members to advocate for issues impacting the IDD community. In preparation, helpful virtual informational sessions will be held on April 29th at 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM.

We hope you will be able to attend this event. It is very important for members of the General Assembly to see we are a unified and powerful voice!

The Pennsylvania Senate has passed the CROWN Act, enacting statutory protections from racial discrimination, including on the basis of hair type or protective hairstyles. ELC-PA thanks the lawmakers who championed this critical step for equity in our public schools. Students can now wear braids, locs, and twists without fear of punishment.

Illegal racial hair discrimination has no place in classrooms. Every child deserves to be celebrated for who they and learn in environments free of discrimination.
