Did you know that refusing a DUI breath or blood test in Illinois actually puts your driver’s license at risk for *longer* than if you just fail it?

If you refuse the test, you’re facing a mandatory 12-month license suspension (even if you’re never convicted). Fail the test? It’s 6 months: half as long. Why? Illinois has strict "implied consent" laws, so just by driving, you agree to chemical testing if stopped for DUI. Refusing triggers harsher penalties regardless of guilt or innocence.

Bottom line: whether you blow or not, your license is on the line. If you’re facing DUI charges or a suspension notice, don’t go it alone. There are defenses and specific steps that can help. Reach out and let’s talk through your options: your license and future are worth fighting for.

Big changes are coming to Illinois laws in 2026! Here’s what to know for 2026 in Illinois.

🔸 Safe Gun Storage Act: Firearm owners must secure guns, especially in homes with minors.
🔸 Police Body Cameras: All law enforcement will wear body cameras for increased transparency.
🔸 Missing Persons: No more waiting periods; police must accept missing persons reports right away.
🔸 Felony Gun Diversion: First-time, nonviolent gun offenders may qualify for compliance programs instead of jail.
🔸 Hate Crime Update: More protections and stronger enforcement against hate-based offenses.
🔸 Rights for Survivors: Landlords must inform tenants about rights for victims of domestic violence.
🔸 Safe Schools for All: Schools can’t disclose students’ immigration status to keep campus safer.

If you’re wondering how these new laws could impact you, let’s talk! Liberty Law is here to guide you every step of the way.

Illinois landlords: 2025 brings big updates to the rental game. Winter eviction restrictions mean evictions are paused statewide December 16 – January 6, and can be delayed any time temps drop below 15°F or during severe weather.

But that’s not all. New flood disclosure laws require you to clearly state, in writing, if your rental property is in a FEMA flood zone or has any history of flooding. Neglecting this step? You risk hefty penalties and possible lawsuits if something goes wrong.

These rules are meant to protect tenants, but they can create costly compliance gaps for landlords. Now’s the time to review your leases and update your processes. Questions about how the new laws affect you? Liberty Law is here to help you stay compliant and protect your bottom line.

Illinois landlords, are you aware of the new retaliation law? If you take unjust action against a tenant for exercising their rights: like making complaints or joining a tenant union: you could face TRIPLE DAMAGES. That means much steeper financial consequences if you cross the line! Retaliation isn’t just about evictions; it includes rent hikes and restricting access too. Both landlords and tenants deserve to know their rights and risks. Need clarity on how this law affects you? Liberty Law is here for practical legal guidance. Message us anytime!

A second chance shouldn't just be a slogan: it should be real. That's why Illinois is investing more in drug courts and diversion programs that offer treatment instead of jail time for nonviolent offenses.

More people are now eligible: it's not just about first-time offenders anymore. These programs focus on getting to the root of substance use by providing counseling, treatment, and even help with housing.

Who actually gets in? People facing nonviolent charges, often with substance use struggles, who are ready to commit to rehab and personal growth. Completion means the chance for charges to be dismissed or even wiped from your record. Instead of punishment, it's a shot at real recovery: and a real future.

At Liberty Law, we believe everyone deserves a second chance. Got questions? We're here to help you understand your options.

In Illinois, the difference between cannabis decriminalization and drug trafficking isn’t just legal: it’s life-changing. One side means a slap on the wrist, maybe a fine. The other? Felony charges, a permanent record, and your future on the line.

Even small mistakes: like how much you have or how it’s packaged: can tip the scales. Before you make a move, know your rights and understand the law. If you’re caught in the gray area, having a proven fighter in your corner is crucial.

Questions or worried about a recent cannabis charge? Let’s talk strategy. At Liberty Law, your future comes first: every single case, every single client.
