Last week, at the annual conference of the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners, I had the honor of speaking about the impact of tax policy on charitable gift planning. This was a dynamic group of intelligent, engaged professionals who made tax policy a fun topic to teach.

Today’s Monday Motivation to Keep Working on Your Legacy is from one of my sons’ heroes, Anthony Rizzo (he turns 33 today), the former Cubs first baseman who caught the final out of the 2016 World Series, ending the Cubs’ 108 year drought--the longest such occurrence in all major North American sports.
Today's Monday Motivation to Keep Working on Your Legacy comes from Michael E. Ge**er, whose book I just reread last week. It's left me inspired and rejuvenated to keep working on my vision for my law firm. Thank you, Michael!

Today's Monday Motivation to Keep Working on Your Legacy is inspired by my weekend experience: my daughter and I spent our weekend at a mother-daughter social emotional intelligence retreat hosted by the Wright Foundation--three days of exploring and facing difficult questions that often go unaddressed in our busy lives. It's all still new to me but I am thankful that my daughter has the opportunity to put these important concepts into practice as a teen. Thank you, Dr. Robert (Bob) Wright, MCC.

Today's Monday Motivation to Keep Working on Your Legacy is inspired by hikers from Illinois whom I met on my recent Grand Canyon hiking trip. When you're far from home and in an unusually harsh environment, anyone who represents home instantly becomes a friend and ally. Each of these people are amazing and I am thankful for the opportunity to meet them, albeit briefly.
--The woman who made it a point to tell me she graduated from Carl Schurz High School "many, many" years before I graduated from Lane Technical College Prep High School. She was hiking out of the Grand Canyon after completing an intense six-day camping and rafting trip on the Colorado River with other women.
--The group of polite, engaging young men from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign who hiked down from the North Rim the day before, camped at Indian Garden, and were making their way up the South Rim with all their camping gear when we met them at the 3-mile rest stop. What a great summer activity and bonding experience for college students!
--The suburban couple who completed the Rim2Rim a few years ago and were back just for a short hike. We met them towards the end of our hike, sporting Chicago Marathon shirts.
--The humble 56-year-old father of five who began running marathons at 48, after he became an empty nester. He's run the Rim2Rim several times. He's not from Illinois but his wife is originally from St. Louis, which feels close enough to Chicago when you're meeting deep down in the Grand Canyon and you are the only humans around.

My clients trust me with the two most valuable aspects of their lives: everyone they love and everything they own. I consider this the highest honor. My mission is to give them peace of mind.
I focus my practice on estate planning, asset preservation, probate, special needs planning, elder law, business, taxation, and succession planning in the Chicago land area. I am experienced in integrating business, tax, asset protection, and estate planning for individuals, closely-held business owners, and families. I listen to my clients and then recommend a plan in keeping with their needs and goals.
I structure and draft documents ranging from simple wills, trusts, and powers of attorney to complex plans involving limited liability companies, irrevocable trusts, special needs trusts, and charitable trusts.
My scholastic professional background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and History from Loyola University Chicago, a Juris Doctorate from Valparaiso University School of Law, and a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in Information Technology and Privacy Law from the John Marshall Law School.
I am a member of the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the Illinois State Bar Association, the DuPage County Bar Association, and the Kane County Bar Association.
I practice estate planning law for one simple reason: I want to leave the world a better place than the one I inherited. Why do I care what happens after I’m gone? Because my children and their friends are going to live in this world. I am thankful to be living the American Dream and I see it as my responsibility to help the next generation do the same. A meaningful legacy can help them achieve it.
