Rise Up Mystic

Rise Up Mystic RiseUpMystic is a local, grassroots movement for progressive change. There are no requirements to join us, all are welcome.

To become an official member, please sign up for our email list. It began on November 10th, 2016, the morning after the presidential election, as we felt the weight of an upcoming administration born out of fear and hate. It began with long low sighs of disbelief as we greeted one another at work and at bus stops, with looks of despair as we imagined the repercussions of electing a person with no

political experience and no decorum on the international stage. It began as brave Americans started to realize in order to keep our country truly a land of the free and continue to honor democracy, that we the people are going to have to rise up, defend our shared values, and fight for the rights of the marginalized. It began when we knew it was time for action. We gathered to envision what a grassroots organization designed to counter the effects of the upcoming administration might look like. We came together to end the divisiveness and begin a conversation, to end negativity and create positive change. It was clear there was a lot of ground to cover. Protecting people of color and LGBT communities, defending issues of women’s health, protecting the environment, supporting the ACLU, and staying true to America’s roots as a land that accepts and appreciates immigrants. The overwhelming change in government demands a clear and organized response. We want to inform, encourage and empower as many people as possible to speak out for progressive change, to fight for human rights, and to preserve the dignity of our beloved nation.

Groton is represented by people who know how to get things done!

Rep. Aundré Bumgardner and Rep. Dan Gaiewski announced that Groton is set to receive $35.3 million in state aid for FY 2027, up $3.37 million from last year. It gives the town more room to support services and help steady property taxes.

Groton residents: this is a good chance to weigh in on the kinds of housing options you would like to see in town and what feels compatible with Groton’s neighborhoods.

The “Meeting in the Middle” survey is looking at housing types like duplexes, triplexes, townhouses, cottage courts, and small multifamily homes.

Take the survey here:

Paper copies are also available at Town Hall, the Town Hall Annex, Thrive 55+, and the Groton Public Library.
