Where will the Downtown Muskegon Dog Park be located? The triangle-shaped lot is located at 793 W. Western Avenue and is known by many locally as the Carpenter Brothers site. The Carpenter Lot is an undeveloped lot in the Nims/Nelson Neighborhoods. It is an odd shaped lot butting up to the railroad tracks. The lot was the home to Carpenter Brothers supply until the building tragically burned. Muskegon County ended up with the property and it has been vacant ever since. The dog park will transform this previously unused, odd lot into something of which these downtown neighborhoods can be proud. The Downtown Muskegon Dog Park is a "gateway to revitalization" in this area. How does an Off-Leash Dog Park Impact our community? We naturally tend to assume that off-leash parks are primarily for the benefit of our beloved dogs, but experienced dog park users know better. Off-leash parks offer just as many benefits to humans as they do to dogs. Off leash dog parks benefit our pets by allowing for the freedom to run, chase, catch, and interact with other humans and dogs. An exercised dog is healthier and happier, as well as better adjusted to meeting other humans and dogs. Dogs are a great ice-breaker. Connections are made, friendships grow, and a community is built. From Ali Rutzel, the head of Citizens for Off-Leash Areas (COLA) —

"People say, 'I never knew my neighbors until I went to the dog park.' You meet all these wonderful people and the only thing that you have in common is that you have a dog and that you love dogs - you wouldn't meet these people anywhere else." About Us: The Downtown Muskegon Dog Park is a community based project incorporating Downtown Muskegon Now, Ellen Berends, The City of Muskegon, Muskegon County, The Community Foundation for Muskegon County, Baker College Vet Tech Program, Watermark Center, The Coffee Factory, Halfshell Graphics, Christopher C. Cordle Designs and the Friends of the Muskegon Dog Beach are excited to reuse this property for a fun, green space. We are a group of dog lovers and fierce advocates of Muskegon. This is truly For the Community, By the Community.

If you love Kruse Dog Beach, please try to attend this open house to express your opinions. It is very important that dog lovers attend and tell the City their thoughts. Thank you! 🐶

The city of Muskegon would like your input on plans for restoring access to Kruse Park beach. Be aware that some are seeing this as an opportunity to petition against dog beach.

±+++++(

It is time to restore access to Kruse Park! We invite you to come to City Hall two weeks from today from 4-5:30 pm to review a few options that have been put together. Vote on your favorite plan and leave any additional feedback. If you are unable to join us in person, please email Leo Evans and Milo Root or call our Department of Public Works.

Not surprising, the Downtown Muskegon Petsafe Bark Park has been temporarily closed at the suggestion of county public health officials. It is for our safety and best for the community. Like playground equipment, the virus can be spread on the bark park gates. The city of Muskegon will use the down time to restore the turf, especially in the large dog area. See you when it is safe to gather again as a dog community. Be safe, stay healthy.

Great fun was had by all on our community dog walk last Wednesday. We met at Western market, walked up Western to the dog park, let the pups play and some met back on the porch for socializing at 18th Amendment. We have one more walk scheduled for August 21st. The post everyone has been waiting for...the large dog park is open! Thank you to everyone for your patience.
We all love our Muskegon dogs and are doing the best to make the park a community gathering place for fur parents and pups alike.
That being said, we do ask that you help us out to make that possible. The grass is not 100% done so we ask that owners stay on the cement as much as possible and leave the grass to pawprints instead of footprints.
We have one trash receptacle at the park, the dumpster in the parking lot. Please clean up after your pets and dispose of it properly there.
On a more positive note, our water is on so the doggy drinking fountains will be fully functional as it hopefully starts to heat up.
As of July 1, the PetSafe Bark Park will be operated by the Muskegon Downtown Development Authority along with the Muskegon Department of Public Works and Parks.
This change will also bring some very welcomed and requested improvements such as a picnic shelter, new cement pads, lighting, and doggy agility/play equipment. The park will also be open year-round so your pups can beat cabin fever.
Thank you again to every dog lover who has been patient and understanding as we work to improve another great asset of our downtown community.

We know some of your pups are sad about the large dog park being closed, like this guy!

With the recent rain, we are trying to give the grass in the large dog park time to grow. Which will mean less muddy paws in your back seat! There will also be trees planted in both sections of the park next week.

We understand the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we continue to improve the free community dog park for everyone! Keep an eye on this page for updates on when the gates will open back up.
