Attorney Beau Bergmann to Serve as National Judge at High School Mock Trial Championship this weekend.

Mr. Bergmann has been selected to serve as a volunteer judge at the National High School Mock Trial Championship, an honor reserved for distinguished members of the legal community.

The championship brings together top high school mock trial teams from across the country, where students argue simulated cases before panels of practicing attorneys and judges. Volunteer judges score student performances on courtroom advocacy, witness examinations, and legal reasoning.

“Mock trial gave me an early window into the legal profession, and judging at the national level is a chance to give that back,” said Bergmann. “These students are sharper and more prepared than many young attorneys I’ve seen. It’s a privilege to be part of their experience.”

We are directly impacted by Iowa's indigent defense crisis. Several of our current clients waited weeks & months without Court appointing counsel due to the attorney shortage.

Pay rate of return is 1/5 the price of private attorney; but it is our law firm’s belief & support of upholding the Constitutional right to counsel that we offer these services to Iowa indigent individuals during this continued crisis of lack of attorneys available in Iowa, specifically Scott Co .

Bergmann Law Firm, P.L.L.C. is deeply committed to upholding the principles of the 6th and 14th Amendments, specifically the 'Right to Counsel,' by providing court-appointed representation to indigent defendants in the 7th Judicial District.

However, when the local State Public defenders office stopped taking any Misdemeanor cases over year ago; this added to a massive crisis within the 7th Judicial district. Judges created a special ‘Order: Lack of Counsel Available,’ for indigent defendants who qualified for court appointed counsel but no attorneys were available.

Many Misdemeanor indigent defendants waited months to receive a court-appointed counsel.

The Iowa State Bar Association- Mr. Bergmann has been volunteering over the past 8 months to be appointed to take on extra misdemeanor cases to help with this indigent defense crises in the 7th district.

Representing SPD court appointed clientele can be intimidating for other private attorney’s, Mr. Bergmann is willing to help other attorneys or law students interested in learning more about how they can get involved to help with this crisis - Contact him directly: [email protected]
