The Refugee Alliance of Delaware County is deeply saddened by the recent tragic shooting involving members of the National Guard. We mourn this heartbreaking loss and hold the families, friends, and fellow service members in our thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.
We also want to affirm something essential: our Afghan neighbors, many of whom stood shoulder-to-shoulder with American soldiers in the long and difficult years of the conflict, came to our community because they believed in safety, partnership, and the shared values that unite us. They have sacrificed alongside U.S. service members, and many continue to serve this country in countless ways.
This devastating incident is an isolated event and does not reflect the character, courage, or gratitude of the Afghan community here in Delaware County or across the nation.
At moments like this, we choose unity. We stand with the National Guard, with our Afghan neighbors, and with everyone committed to building a safe, welcoming community for all.
