EMPLOYMENT SCREENING
Recruiting the right employee for the right position is one of the most critical challenges facing Human Resources professionals. In a global economy, with a very mobile workforce, candidate interviews can no longer be solely relied upon to make sound hiring decisions. Pre-employment screening allows employers to verify information, as well as uncover prior behavior such as substance abuse, credit discrepancy, and criminal or civil litigation that may expose an employer to potential risk.
Utilizing pre-employment screening as part of the recruitment process will lead to a measurable increase in the quality of candidates, and ultimately the quality of employees. Increased productivity and a decrease in employee turnover equate to cost savings for any business. An additional benefit realized by employers who utilize pre-employment screening is a reduction in non-violent employee misconduct such as theft, drug possession, and other offenses that may be damaging to your company’s image and brand resulting in lost customers. Thorough pre-employment screening is an effective tool for identifying applicants who may have a history of non-violent misconduct that may or may not have resulted in an arrest.
Verification of previous employment, credit and bankruptcy reporting, driving records, and civil litigation screenings all lead to a reduction in incidences of non- violent, but costly employee misconduct. Criminal conviction and substance abuse screenings can greatly reduce the risk of a violent incident perpetrated by an employee in the workplace. Because an employer may be found liable if an employee injures a co-worker, customer, or member of the general public, proper pre-employment screening also reduces the risk of negligent litigation.
