As summer approaches it is important to remember that summer camps and other such activities fill up fast. Enrollment is often in February and March.
Understandably, parents may not be able to confirm the details of their vacation plans that early but it is important to confirm the dates that you will have custody of your children.
Co-parenting requires communication about such matters. Additionally communication is necessary to ensure your children’s well being.
Being child focused requires that you love your children more than you dislike your Ex.
If you need help in achieving your goals for co-parenting there are professionals who can assist you. Find a family lawyer in your area to get such referrals.

Children need and deserve to grow within an environment free of fear and conflict. When conflict in the home becomes “usual” and “inescapable” everyone suffers and the children are scarred.
Staying for the children is not a healthy option if the adults are not able to advance the relationship into a healthy status and provide the children with an example of marriage that they should emulate.
Sometimes leaving for the children is a better option.

These are difficult times for many folks. For some, basic needs are not being met. Though each of us have challenges to face, being without a roof over one’s head, or being without food for one’s children, is often more than one can bear. Kindness is often a measure of one’s character. We all have something to give. A smile…a kind word….Pass it forward. A small kindness will go a long way. Sometimes it provides the strength one needs to get through a difficult day.

With the new year comes opportunities to recreate the aspects of our lives that prevent us from achieving our goals. If divorce is the means by which you wish to change your life, consider meeting with a reputable divorce attorney prior to informing your spouse of your intentions. There are certain steps to take which may help you in moving forward, and having the education received from one who knows is necessary.

Best Wishes in the New Year!

As summer approaches I encourage those with final orders to review the summer schedule established for their children. Summer is not the time to cause conflict about time spent with the kids. If you and the other parent cannot agree in advance to “switch” or accommodate the other, as requested, then DO what the final order directs to be done. Keep in mind that children should not be told of the fun they could have with you, but for the other parent’s scheduled time. Let them enjoy the time with both of you without fearing what they may be missing out on. Nothing good will come of unnecessary conflict.

Each of us is writing our own story. If the chapter you are in is difficult, reframe the next chapter. If a loved one is not contibuting in a positive way to the story you are writing, know that with a new chapter comes new choices about who you wish to include.

Having a child with another, is choosing to bring a major character into your child’s story as well as your own. Choose wisely.

Children rely on their parents to write the first several chapters in their life stories. It is a responsibility. Do not create conflict in the early chapters. Their own life experiences will provide them plenty of opportunities for that.

Sometimes, goodbyes help to eliminate and/or avoid conflict, in which case it is okay to conclude the chapter and move on. The memories we keep can be revisited, with countless smiles and tears. Reread those chapters but do not repeat them.

We do not know how long or short our stories will be.
