“To be honest, the decision to go this route is brutal,” Schunk said. “It’s always been hard to make money here because it’s seasonal and weather related. If it rains over the weekend, we can’t get that revenue back.”

Jim Schunk said his decision to turn 29-year Cedar Creek Sports Center into townhomes and two commercial lots is “brutal.”

“What happens is (con artists) will submit documents, forge names, forge signatures, basically steal a property owner’s identity and then take a mortgage out on the property,” Murphy said. “The bank will drive by and do a property assessment from the road. They’ll take out a $50,000 loan on a property that’s worth $250,000, so when the bank drives by they’re like, ‘yeah, that’s worth that,” Murphy said.

Jackie Murphy, Wilson County’s new Register of Deeds, spoke to the Wilson County Commission last week about property fraud and what her office is doing to combat the issue.

There is nothing more satisfying than to know I have made another human being's burden lighter. I would be remiss to keep that joy to myself when I know full well that it has taken all of us to do this together. Your financial giving, your food and thrift donations, your volunteering and sharing of our mission has resulted in the following numbers of how WCCHC and you have made a difference in 2018!!! State of the County Address was hosted by the Lebanon Wilson County Chamber of Commerce. Wilson County Mayor Randall Hutto presented “The State of the County Address,” which focused on improvements and growth in Wilson County.

Hutto stated that the three most focused areas are: education, public safety and quality of life. Current enrollment for Wilson County schools is up. Several new schools have been added to the district, with more planned for the future. This growth has allowed for all portable classrooms to be removed from Wilson County Schools.

Hutto spoke briefly on the plan to incorporate co-location of emergency services. There will be an addition to the 911 dispatch building in Lebanon, to co-locate all of the agencies. What this means, is that other agencies like WEMA, will be in the same location. This saves time during dispatching emergency personnel, saving time and lives.

Quality of life is one of the top three concerns for Wilson County this includes the great amenities that already exist, such as the Music City Star Railroad, James E. Ward Agricultural Center, Wilson County Fairgrounds, Veteran’s Park, trails and parks, greenways, and numerous restaurants.
Hutto discussed the Improve Act which is expected to do great things for Wilson County. Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has several projects in the works and in the future.

Hutto ended on enjoy your family. With all the everyday workings, family is most important.
