🪱 Summer Reading continued to GROW at KML this week!

Rebecca with the U of I Extension Christian, Jersey, Macoupin, and Montgomery County read “Worm Makes a Sandwich” by Brianne Farley and shared fascinating information about vermicomposting! Children had the opportunity to create and take home their own worm farm, measure gummy worms, and learn about the worm life cycle through hands-on activities.

Next week marks our Summer Reading Finale, full of outdoor activities! Join us in celebrating a successful summer of reading and discovery with a bounce house, Kona Ice, and more! 📚🎉

🍯 Farm-to-Home was the theme today for KML’s Summer Reading Program! 👩‍🌾

Thank you to Amanda from The Hughes Homestead, LLC for sharing her knowledge about growing food, raising animals, and creating products from local farms and even our own backyards. We appreciate her taking the time to inspire our young readers and gardeners!

Join us next Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. as the U of I Extension Christian, Jersey, Macoupin, and Montgomery County brings us a fascinating look at a worm farm. It's sure to be a fun and interesting afternoon!

Week 2 of Kitchell Memorial Library's Summer Reading Program, "Plant a Seed, Read!", was a growing success!

A big thank you to Macon County Conservation District for bringing their "Ready, Set, Grow" plant life cycle station and teaching the children about how plants grow. Every child got to take home their own planted seed to observe at home.

Don't forget to join us next Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. for a special presentation by The Hughes Homestead, LLC. Be sure to bring your library bags, books, and reading logs to earn awesome prizes and entries for a chance to win a brand-new bike! 📚🌱🚲

Along with the new projects and improvements taking place, KML has also gained two new members to the Board of Trustees.

Please join us in welcoming Colby Huddleston and Holly Beeler to the Kitchell Memorial Library Board! Colby joined KML late last year and Holly began this last month during renovations.
We are grateful for their willingness to serve our community and look forward to the knowledge and ideas they will bring to the library.

What a month! 😅

We truly could not have completed this renovation in such a short amount of time without the help of some wonderful people.

A huge thank you to Charity and Krissy for the countless hours they dedicated—late nights, early mornings, weekends, packing, organizing, shelving books, recruiting family members, and making sure everything (and everyone!) was where it needed to be.

Thank you to the board, especially President Brian Grundy and Trustee Colby Huddleston, for recruiting their families, helping move boxes, shelves, and hang décor and picture frames throughout the library, and just being there for us all month!

Thank you to Mr. Bullard and his students for spending a morning with us doing some much-needed heavy lifting.

Thank you teens, Avery, Beckem, Chelsea, Christian, Emma, John, Lucas, Luke, Noah, Rayla, & R***r who volunteered their time to help with a variety of tasks and get everything back in order!

And thank you to the workers who painted (inside & out) and replaced the flooring. You worked through our time crunch and around our schedules and that is very appreciated!

This project was truly a community effort, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who gave their time, energy, and support. Your hard work helped make the library's new chapter possible. 💜 📖

☀️ Summer Reading is in full swing at Kitchell Memorial Library! 🚜

Yesterday’s “Plant a Seed, Read" program offered everyone an up-close look at farm machinery. A big thank you to the more than 40 children who attended, as well as to Brian and Dan for bringing their tractors for everyone to see.

Thanks also to our teen volunteers—Hailey, Hannah, Olivia, Christian, John, and Chelsea—for helping make the program a success.

Children entering grades K–6 are invited to join us at 2:00 p.m. every Tuesday in June for summer fun at the library. Participants will have chances to win prizes throughout the program, including a bicycle giveaway generously sponsored by Pat and Glenna Sue Wolf!

We look forward to seeing everyone next week!
