Today we celebrate Veterans Day and yesterday was the birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps.
The legend of the Marine Corps may have been founded in places Chapultepec Castle, Mexico (the “Halls of Montezuma”) and the shores of Tripoli (Libya), but it was cemented permanently during World War 2, when U.S. Marines island-hopped across the Pacific, essentially repeating D-Day over and over again in miniature, suffering staggering casualties and being both the first and last U.S. troops to face the enemy. Their legend continued and spread to far-flung places like Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan, where their bravery, skill, and self-sacrifice were often the deciding factor in victory.
As one foreign soldier who had fought alongside the Marines once put it, “You might hear all sorts of stories about the U.S. Military; some good, some not so good. But when you're down to your last bullet, you're cold, scared, and surrounded, you'll never understand the feeling of seeing a Jeep creeping over the horizon with the words 'U.S. MARINES' written on it.”
Gianola, Barnum, & Jecklin L.C. is incredibly proud to count not one, but two Marine veterans among its ranks: Gary Wigal and Jason Wingfield. Two incredibly brave Marines who have devoted their legal practice to helping others.
We wish them and all veterans a happy Veterans Day today.
