Today we celebrate Veterans Day and yesterday was the birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps.

The legend of the Marine Corps may have been founded in places Chapultepec Castle, Mexico (the “Halls of Montezuma”) and the shores of Tripoli (Libya), but it was cemented permanently during World War 2, when U.S. Marines island-hopped across the Pacific, essentially repeating D-Day over and over again in miniature, suffering staggering casualties and being both the first and last U.S. troops to face the enemy. Their legend continued and spread to far-flung places like Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan, where their bravery, skill, and self-sacrifice were often the deciding factor in victory.

As one foreign soldier who had fought alongside the Marines once put it, “You might hear all sorts of stories about the U.S. Military; some good, some not so good. But when you're down to your last bullet, you're cold, scared, and surrounded, you'll never understand the feeling of seeing a Jeep creeping over the horizon with the words 'U.S. MARINES' written on it.”

Gianola, Barnum, & Jecklin L.C. is incredibly proud to count not one, but two Marine veterans among its ranks: Gary Wigal and Jason Wingfield. Two incredibly brave Marines who have devoted their legal practice to helping others.

We wish them and all veterans a happy Veterans Day today.

Businesses reeling from the COVID-19 pandemic just got help! Today the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 911, enacting the CARES Act.

This bill includes powerful tools to help small business in West Virginia and throughout the United States.

A major part of those tools is a series of small business loans called the “Paycheck Protection Program,” which provides small businesses with loans under very favorable terms in the hopes of keeping American businesses alive.

These loans require no payments for at least 6 months and a large portion of these loans may even be forgiven.

Gianola, Barnum, Bechtel & Jecklin L.C. wants every West Virginia business to survive this crisis and we’re dedicated to helping businesses get these loans and get the maximum amount forgiven.

Contact us today to find out how we can help you during the COVID-19 pandemic, including how to participate in the Paycheck Protection Program.

Call 1-800-214-5705 to schedule a free consultation about this or any other issue facing your business.

"We can scarcely dispense with the aid of West-Virginia in this struggle; much less can we afford to have her against us, in congress and in the field. Her brave and good men regard her admission into the Union as a matter of life and death. They have been true to the Union under very severe trials."

--Abraham Lincoln
