Our office is closed for Indigenous Peoples' Day. We will return tomorrow.

For the EBCI, every day is Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Our deep connection to the land, our traditions, and our people is something we honor and live daily. While today invites broader recognition of Indigenous contributions, our focus is on the continued fight to protect our sovereignty and the rights of Indigenous tribes across the country.

As we work to secure a brighter future, we are investing in our children and the generations to come by protecting our resources, strengthening our governance, and preserving our culture. Through these efforts we ensure that our future leaders will inherit a community where our people thrive, and our traditions remain strong.

Our office is closed today. We will be back in tomorrow.

Today, we celebrate Mother Cabrini Day as a tribute to the remarkable legacy of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, including founding a school for immigrants and an orphanage in Denver. May her compassion and selflessness continue to inspire us as we work towards creating a better world for all.

Good mernin and happy Wednesday my early risers, night owls, insomniacs, and neuro spicy besties.

Two storm systems will bring an amalgam of different weather hazards to Colorado, Wyoming, Nebrasky, and Kansas with the first storm for Thursday into Friday.

- Wind
- Thunderstorms
- Rain
- High mountain snow
- Elevated fire danger (southern Colorado)
- Strong to severe storms (E, and NE Colorado, W Kansas, SE Wyoming, W Nebrasky)

Way too much information to cram into one post, but I wanna get you out the door with deets for this first storm; so here's the summary:

Today (Wednesday): Isolated showers & storms in the mountains and favoring the Cheyenne Ridge in northern Colorado, southern Wyoming, and the western Nebrasky pandyhandle after 1pm. Can't rule out a stray shower or storm as far south as Denver.

Thursday: A potent trough of low pressure will move across the Rockies during the day. Showers and storms will develop first in the mountains between NOON-1pm, and then across portions of I-25 and the eastern plains shortly after that as surface low pressure deepens in eastern Colorado.

Snow levels will drop in the mountains, and rain/thunderstorms will fill in across the Colorado front range (I-25 corridor), Wyoming, and Nebraska near the surface low. Dry air being drawn into the storm from the desert southwest will create downsloping conditions for southern Colorado especially in and south of Pueblo County.

Thursday afternoon and evening, the threat for strong to severe thunderstorms exists within my red oval circle shape thingy. All modes of severe weather are possible. Damaging winds (58mph or greater), large hail (at least quarter size or larger) and brief tornadoes are all possible.

Friday: As the storm continues to strengthen, the deformation zone north and west side of the storm circulation will bring moderate/heavy snowfall to the central and northern mountains and rain/embedded thunderstorms to the northern front range, southeast Wyoming, and the Nebraska panhandle. Best chance will be along and north of I-70.

In future updates, I'll elaborate more on timing, and potential impacts and will also talk about the storm for Saturday & Sunday. Lots of updates to follow. So, get in the habit of going to the page and checking regularly for updates. It may require you to physically search for Denver & Front Range Weather and scroll down until you're all caught up.

Mernin and happy Thursday!

Scattered snow showers mixed with rain this mernin most numerous in the vicinity of the I-76 corridor in NE Colorado, stretching onto the Cheyenne Ridge in SE Wyoming and the Nebrasky panhandle.

Snurfall up in the mountains will diminish and become more showery in nature throughout the day today with difficult travel still possible especially at pass level.

Another storm system overnight tonight into Friday mernin will create more moderate to heavy snurfall in the mountains once again and some showers could be locally heavy with thunder and lightning!

Meanwhile, for the rest of us not in the mountains, scattered showers remain possible heading into Friday, especially north of I-70 going up onto the Cheyenne Ridge. Light accumulations are possible especially Friday mernin.

Where the forecast gets super spicy and Dennis Rodman complicated is with the storm system that moves in Friday night into Saturday!

There is still a pretty wide range of accumulation possibilities with all of the forecast model data. Just in the spirit of transparency, here's what the data shows:

- Higher deterministic runs and some high resolution data showing up to TWO FEET in some isolated areas within 25-50 miles of any given location north of I-70 with lesser amounts in southern Colorado.

- Lower deterministic runs only develop 2-5" but it's pretty widespread due to a combination of shallow upslope behind a weak cold front, and very steep lapse rates (the rate at which temperature cools with height). Steep lapse rates help air to rise which is what we need to condense moisture and form clouds. Science!

- A good chunk of the ensemble data and mean averages are right in the middle with a possible 5-10" snurfall across most of the I-25 corridor from Trinidad up to Cheyenne, and across the eastern plains, SE Wyoming, and Nebraska. This would include the foothills as well.

At this point, going with the ensemble averages makes the most sense right meow. There is just too much of a spread in accumulation possibilities but I understand why. There's a lot of variables in this storm's particular equation that I think are influencing microphysics bias in model output. What I am referring to specifically is convection.

So, convection is the transport of heat and moisture vertically into the atmosphere. It is commonly associated with thunderstorms except this time of the year instead of rain and hail, we have snur! This contributes to locally heavy precipitation, and quick accumulation rates. The coverage of convection will determine whether the highest accumulation potential is isolated or pretty widespread. It's a very complex aspect of this forecast that will be difficult to nail down. Should be totes fun! 😜

Just a brief glimpse behind the curtain as I work to figure out what this storm is going to do. Be patient with me. Show me some grace. I'll update you as often as I can, mmkay?

So, my rum and raisin cake is gluten free. It's also raisin free, and cake free.

Okay, it's just rum. 😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜
