Free Workshop on Law School Admission Exam (LSAT) Aims to Recruit Future Lawyers in the Arkansas Delta

The Delta Justice Center will host a law school admission test (LSAT) workshop for anyone interested in going to law school and being a lawyer. This free event will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2025 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Monticello Branch Library (114 Jefferson Ave., Monticello, AR 71655). A virtual option is also available.

This informational session will offer a detailed overview of the LSAT exam and general law school admission information. Attorney Tabitha B. Lee from the Delta Justice Center will discuss topics such as exam dates, registration and fees, exam sections, study and test taking strategies, and next steps on the path to law school.

This session is geared towards addressing the legal deserts in rural areas of Arkansas, especially the Arkansas Delta region, where there is often less than 1 available attorney to serve every 1,000 residents. This lack of legal assistance often results in unresolved legal issues, increased vulnerability to poverty, housing insecurity, and inadequate representation in criminal and civil legal issues. It has also been uncovered as a critical health determinant in rural populations.

Community partners for this event are Arkansas Access to Justice, Monticello Branch Library, and the NAACP Drew County Legal Redress Committee. “While technology has made some legal services easier to access, it cannot replace the role of local attorneys in rural communities,” said Abby Brenneman, Executive Director of the Arkansas Access to Justice Commission. “Barriers like limited internet access and lack of familiarity with online tools still exist, and people are often more comfortable seeking help from someone they know and trust. Rural attorneys understand the local systems and often serve as community leaders who help their neighbors understand their rights. Efforts like this workshop are an important step in encouraging future lawyers to serve in the communities that need them most.”

Registration is required. Anyone is welcome to attend. You do not have to live in Arkansas to sign up. Register here: https://forms.gle/ysvz5DsmskQz2XY28 or email Tabitha Lee to sign up.

We are excited to announce that our attorney Tabitha Lee will be leading a special informational session about the LSAT (law school admission test) at the Monticello Branch Library on Saturday, April 11, 2026 from 12:30 -1:30p CST.

This program is for anyone who is thinking about a career as a lawyer and looking for guidance on going to law school. This workshop will include discussion about exam dates, registration and fees, an overview of exam sections, study and test taking strategies, and next steps.

Some places in Arkansas, especially in southeast Arkansas and other rural areas, have a shortage of lawyers called a legal desert. This can mean that only 1 lawyer (or less!) is available to serve every 1,000 people. The Delta Justice Center is tackling this shortage head on with free legal services, free legal education, and opportunities for future lawyers like this workshop.

This event is free and open to the public. An in-person and virtual option is available. Registration is required. You do not have to be from Arkansas to register for this event.

Second Free Veterans Legal Clinic to be held in Southeast Arkansas in December 2025

The Delta Justice Center and the Veterans Legal Services Clinic at the UALR William H. Bowen School of Law will again partner to host a legal clinic for veterans. This free event will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the VFW in Monticello (148 Veterans Drive, Monticello, AR 71655).

This clinic will offer free consultations on VA disability appeals and discharge upgrades. Other legal issues will be considered on a referral basis. Veterans from the surrounding areas are welcome and invited to attend.

Partners for this clinic include the Delta Justice Center, UALR William H. Bowen School of Law Veterans Legal Services Clinic, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4515. Attorneys who would like to volunteer can contact Attorney Tabitha Lee for more information.

This is a continuation of the successful clinic that was held in July 2025. A total of 5 volunteer attorneys provided free legal advice to 15 people including 12 veterans from Monticello, Wilmar, Pine Bluff, and Hamburg. The majority of case consultations involved VA disability claims, while other issues included family law, estate planning, and criminal record sealing. The veterans who attended have served a combined 103 years to the United States of America.

“I, as the Commander of the VFW, appreciate all that’s being done for both veterans and non-veterans,” says Commander Keith Banks. “and I hope the next event will be even better.”

Clinic attorneys will see walk-ins on a first come first served basis. Please bring any relevant documentation about your legal issue to the clinic.
