Free Workshop on Law School Admission Exam (LSAT) Aims to Recruit Future Lawyers in the Arkansas Delta
The Delta Justice Center will host a law school admission test (LSAT) workshop for anyone interested in going to law school and being a lawyer. This free event will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2025 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Monticello Branch Library (114 Jefferson Ave., Monticello, AR 71655). A virtual option is also available.
This informational session will offer a detailed overview of the LSAT exam and general law school admission information. Attorney Tabitha B. Lee from the Delta Justice Center will discuss topics such as exam dates, registration and fees, exam sections, study and test taking strategies, and next steps on the path to law school.
This session is geared towards addressing the legal deserts in rural areas of Arkansas, especially the Arkansas Delta region, where there is often less than 1 available attorney to serve every 1,000 residents. This lack of legal assistance often results in unresolved legal issues, increased vulnerability to poverty, housing insecurity, and inadequate representation in criminal and civil legal issues. It has also been uncovered as a critical health determinant in rural populations.
Community partners for this event are Arkansas Access to Justice, Monticello Branch Library, and the NAACP Drew County Legal Redress Committee. “While technology has made some legal services easier to access, it cannot replace the role of local attorneys in rural communities,” said Abby Brenneman, Executive Director of the Arkansas Access to Justice Commission. “Barriers like limited internet access and lack of familiarity with online tools still exist, and people are often more comfortable seeking help from someone they know and trust. Rural attorneys understand the local systems and often serve as community leaders who help their neighbors understand their rights. Efforts like this workshop are an important step in encouraging future lawyers to serve in the communities that need them most.”
Registration is required. Anyone is welcome to attend. You do not have to live in Arkansas to sign up. Register here: https://forms.gle/ysvz5DsmskQz2XY28 or email Tabitha Lee to sign up.
