Unfortunately, it has become more difficult for people to find relief in immigration court now. Voluntary departure does not carry the same harsh punishments as deportation. But, it is still sad and often tragic for people who have lived in the U.S. for many years and have grown families and established lives in America to see it all end in this way!

Vilma Palacios is one of thousands who have given up their immigration cases and voluntarily left the U.S. after being detained. More detainees are opting for voluntary departure than ever before, a CBS News analysis found.

USCIS recommends aliens seek a timely renewal of their EAD by properly filing a renewal application up to 180 days before their EAD expires. The longer an alien waits to file an EAD renewal application, the more likely it is that they may experience a temporary lapse in their employment authorization or documentation.

USCIS recomienda a los extranjeros que soliciten la renovación de su EAD con suficiente antelación, presentando la solicitud de renovación correctamente hasta 180 días antes de que expire su EAD. Cuanto más tiempo espere un extranjero para presentar una solicitud de renovación de EAD, mayor será la probabilidad de que experimente una interrupción temporal en su autorización o documentación de empleo.
