If you're injured in a car crash caused by another person's negligence, there are several important things you should do to protect your legal rights and ensure that you receive the compensation you deserve. Here are some of the most important steps you can take:

1. Seek medical attention: Your health and safety should be your top priority. Even if you feel fine immediately after the accident, it is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible, as some injuries may not become apparent until later.

2. Contact the police: Contact the police and report the accident. They will create an accident report that can be used as evidence later.

3. Gather evidence: If you are able, take photos of the accident scene, including damage to your vehicle, the other driver's vehicle, and any other property that was damaged in the accident. Get the names and contact information of any witnesses to the accident.

4. Contact an attorney: Consult with an experienced personal injury attorney who can help protect your legal rights and guide you through the process of seeking compensation for your injuries.

5. Notify your insurance company: Contact your own insurance company and report the accident. Provide them with the other driver's insurance information and any other relevant details.

6. Keep track of your medical treatment and expenses: Keep detailed records of all medical treatment you receive and any expenses you incur as a result of the accident.

7. Do not discuss the accident with anyone: Do not discuss the accident with anyone other than your attorney, your insurance company, and your healthcare providers. Do not admit fault or make any statements that could be used against you later.

By taking these steps, you can protect your legal rights and increase your chances of receiving fair compensation for your injuries and other losses.

What to do and what to expect if you're injured on your job.
Take the following steps to comply with the Alabama Workers' Compensation Act (AWCA):

1. Report the injury to your employer as soon as possible. Failure to report the injury within five days COULD result in a loss of benefits.
2. Seek medical attention from an authorized physician or hospital.
3. Follow the doctor's orders for treatment and attend all medical appointments.

Under the AWCA, injured employees are entitled to medical treatment, compensation equal to 2/3 of their average weekly wage if unable to work while recovering from an injury and disability benefits. The amount of benefits depends on the severity and duration of the injury.

If an employee sustains a permanent partial disability, they may be entitled to compensation for a specific number of weeks based on the severity of the injury and the affected body part.

If an employee sustains a permanent total disability, they may be entitled to compensation for the rest of their life. The amount of compensation is based on their average weekly wage and the severity of the disability.

AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT
I frequently get questions from clients and, in several cases from jurors at the conclusion of a motor vehicle accident trial, about why air bags did not deploy in a rear-end crash or in lower speed front end collisions. These devices are designed to activate quickly and effectively in certain front-end collisions, but not in rear-end collisions.
Airbags involve a complex system of sensors and algorithms that work together to determine when and how to deploy the airbag.
In front-end collisions, the vehicle's occupants are more likely to be thrown forward, potentially hitting the steering wheel or dashboard. The airbag helps to reduce the risk of head and neck injuries, as well as chest and abdominal injuries.

In contrast, in rear-end collisions the vehicle's occupants are usually pushed back into their seats.
To prevent unnecessary airbag deployment in rear-end collisions, vehicle manufacturers use a variety of sensors and algorithms to detect the direction and severity of the impact. If the sensors determine that the impact is from the rear, the airbag control module will not deploy the airbag.

The importance of uninsured motorist coverage in Alabama.
If you're a driver in Alabama, it's crucial to have uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage (UM). UM insurance protects you in the event of an accident involving a driver who either has no insurance or doesn't have enough coverage to pay for the damages they cause. In Alabama, estimates suggest that around 18% of drivers are uninsured. So there's a significant chance that the other driver may not have insurance to cover your damages. Having UM coverage ensures that you're protected financially if you're hit by someone with no insurance. So it's essential to make sure you have this coverage to protect yourself and your assets in case of an accident.

COVID-19 BUSINESS INTERRUPTION INSURANCE!
Many small businesses carry insurance to cover loss of business revenue when the restaurant, gym, etc., is unable to operate. Depending on the policy language, the revenue losses caused by Covid-19, may be covered. Be sure to examine your policy language closely or have an attorney review it for you. Don't necessarily rely on your agent who will likely tell you there's no coverage. Please share.
