I, along with my friend and co-counsel Dennis Knizely, had the pleasure of representing Mr. Trent Thorton. I am so pleased to announce that jury returned a verdict of “not guilty” in his third jury trial to the charge of murder. The jury found that Trent acted in self defense. The two prior trials ended with a hung jury.

Trent is a young man that entered the Marine Corps at the age of 18. He heroically served all of us in this country in two separate tours of duty in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Trent, an infantryman, saw combat in both tours.

It’s very difficult to describe what a person is forced to endure when the State of Alabama charges you with crime of murder. Every day of a trial you know that if you’re found guilty you will spend the rest of your life in an Alabama prison. This young man and his family was forced to endure this three times.

It was truly an honor to represent such a courageous young man. I am so grateful for the jury and its verdict.

“My client didn’t murder anybody,” Mobile Criminal Defense Attorney Chase Dearman said. “And at this stage of the game, the law simply states he’s presumed innocent, and he should be entitled to a reasonable bond. There is no way he can afford a $1.5 million cash bond. Very few people can.”

On Friday March 18, 2022, Mr. Damion Little was acquitted of the charges of capital murder, felony murder, manslaughter and attempted murder. Damion was convicted of criminally negligent homicide, a misdemeanor and was sentenced to time served. Damion went home to his family after the week long trial.

Lawyers, Chase Dearman and Maxine Walters, of the Dearman Law Firm were pleased with the jury’s verdict and ultimate outcome of Mr. Little’s trial. Mr. Little awaited his day of justice for over 3 years. For almost 3 1/2 years, Damion was incarcerated in Mobile Metro Jail. We are so pleased Little's long wait for justice is over.

A Dearman Law Firm Success Story:

Mr. Knight was charged with murder and robbery in the first degree. This case gained some notoriety due to the Mobile Police Department’s decision to feature this case on the television show “The First 48”. A show that is highly prejudicial to a defendants right to a fair trial.

The case was tried before a jury. On the fourth day of trial, the jury announced they were deadlocked. The Court instructed the jury to continue deliberations the following morning. On Friday morning prior to the jury resuming deliberations, the State offered a blind plea to manslaughter and Mr. knight accepted. The Robbery 1st was dismissed and Mr. Knight was sentenced to time served along with two years probation.

Mr. Knight went home to his family that day to resume his life.

Trenteon King was indicted on a murder charge. Dearman Law Firm filed a motion to suppress based upon Ex Parte Anderson. The Anderson case, the precedent relied upon was a case Chase Dearman successfully argued before the Court of Civil Appeals. The State of Alabama took the unusual route of an interlocutory appeal to the Court of Criminal Appeals. Chase Dearman and William K. “Chip” Bradford successfully argued the case before the Court of Criminal Appeals. The Court of Criminal Appeals ruled in favor of Mr. King and his murder case was dismissed.
