Friendly reminder as we move through the holidays: Hidalgo County’s No Refusal period is still in effect through January 2.

Despite the name, you can still refuse field sobriety and breathalyzer tests. However, during a No Refusal period, law enforcement has additional resources in place to quickly request a warrant if they suspect DWI. That means refusals don’t always stop the process from moving forward.

The holidays are a time to enjoy yourself, spend time with friends and family, and celebrate responsibly. Planning ahead, using a ride share, or having a designated driver can help you avoid a situation that no one wants to deal with after the holidays are over.

NO REFUSAL DWI CAMPAIGN LAUNCHES FOR 2025 HOLIDAY SEASON - The Rio Grande Valley District Attorney Coalition has officially kicked off the No Refusal DWI Enforcement Campaign, which will run from Nov. 26, 2025 through Jan. 2, 2026.

During this period, anyone suspected of drunk driving who refuses a breath test will be subject to a blood search warrant issued by on-call magistrates.

The campaign aims to reduce impaired-driving fatalities during one of the busiest travel seasons of the year.

District Attorneys from Hidalgo, Cameron, Starr, and Willacy counties are partnering with law enforcement, judges, EMS, and crime labs across the Valley to support the initiative.
