Can police follow you into your home without a warrant? Sometimes.

The hot pursuit exception can allow law enforcement to enter without a warrant when they are actively pursuing someone, but that authority has limits. Simply calling something “hot pursuit” doesn’t automatically make a warrantless entry legal.

The details matter, and part of a strong defense is asking whether law enforcement actually had the legal right to enter.

The difficult reality is that two people can have the exact same legal problem and experience it very differently depending on the resources available to them.

We see that every day, and it’s something worth talking about. A good legal system has to recognize that money is a reality without allowing someone’s financial situation to determine whether they receive fair treatment.
