Member nature highlight: Our Professional Outreach Coordinator found these incredible ghost pipes (Monotropa uniflora) in southeastern Minnesota this autumn!
Though it looks like a mushroom, it’s actually a plant! These plants don’t contain chlorophyll, hence the lack of green. These plants are parasitic, sapping nutrients from nearby mycorrhizal fungi!
