Part of the evaluation process for police officers includes testing. Most departments use the
MMPI2-RF. A candidate should be “ free from any physical, emotional, or mental conditions which might adversely affect his or her exercising the powers or duties of a police officer“

Some of the attributes that hiring agencies would like to test Are:
Integrity
Stress tolerance
Decision making in judgment
Interpersonal skills
Conscientiousness and dependability
adaptability /flexibility

Candidates should know that determining the meaning of a test score for a particular test taker requires integrating it with additional information from other sources, such as personal history questionnaires, Employment records, background investigations, healthcare records, clinical interview and other tests.
The above evaluation process is done by the agency psychologists and is often referred to as the “oral psych”

NYPD Psych disqualified Candidates are succeeding IF AND ONLY IF they appeal an NOPD.
If you submit an appeal it will be reviewed by the NYPD psychologist panel who may refer you to another unit to re-interview you. This is usually called the second interview or an NOPD interview. Increasingly candidates are succeeding at this second interview. It is important to know that if you do not appeal you will not have this opportunity to get a second interview and having your name restored to the eligible list.
If you receive an NOPD you can contact me by calling 516248-0040. You can email me [email protected]. Please visit my website for further information on the disqualification appeal process: www.sheerinlaw.com Or you can visit my blog: civilservice.sheerinlaw.com.
