It’s a beautiful day in Yorktown Heights, where MCW team members Alex, Lynn and Jana are having a great time at the 2026 Dog Walk and Pet Fair. If you’re in the neighborhood stop by and say hi and don’t forget to take one of our famous tote bags. Attendees can take part in a trail walk with their canine companions and enjoy shopping in our the Woof and Meowtown Vendor Village, music, yummy food trucks, a doggy lure course and agility playground, kids activities, demos, and many furry adoptables who will be on-site as well. 🐶🐱

More than 10 years ago, a vacant building in Millbrook, New York, became the start of something special. Managing Partner Joshua Mackey saw possibility where others may have seen only an empty space, and with hard work, determination, and the support of so many incredible people, that vision grew into the firm we are proud to celebrate today.
Over the past decade, we have expanded from Millbrook to Poughkeepsie, New York; Sharon, Connecticut; and New Windsor, New York. But what matters most to us is not how much we have grown — it is the people who made that growth possible.
This anniversary belongs to every attorney, staff member, mentor, client, friend, and family member who believed in us along the way. It has always been a shared effort, built by generations of lawyers and professionals who care deeply about the people they serve and who are willing to work hard to help clients find a path forward.
Looking back through old photos and memories reminds us just how many people helped shape this story. On this tenth anniversary of the firm, we are proud to have met every challenge without losing the spirit of respect, support, and appreciation for the differences that make our team stronger.
To everyone who has been part of these first ten years, we thank you. Your trust, support, and friendship mean more to us than we can fully express. We are incredibly grateful for the journey so far, and we are excited for everything still to come.

This past Wednesday evening, MCW team members attended the Mid Hudson Valley Mortgage Bankers Association event at . Said partner Cara Whalen, “It was nice to see so many familiar faces- attorneys, insurance agents, lenders, realtors, title companies, etc. in such a lovely setting.”

With over 50 years of legal experience, Bob Butts practices primarily in the fields of residential and commercial real estate; zoning, planning and land use law; wills, trusts and estate planning; estate administration; and other areas of general civil law. His representation in real estate transactions has included purchases and sales ranging from major industrial facilities and commercial properties to individual homes and country estates, as well as commercial and residential mortgage lending. He maintains an active estate planning practice, representing individuals and families throughout the Mid-Hudson region.

Bob was born in Poughkeepsie and attended local public schools. After completing his undergraduate studies at Dartmouth, he received both his law degree and a master’s degree in regional planning from Cornell. He began his law career as a staff attorney for Radisson, a “new town” project developed by the New York State Urban Development Corporation near Syracuse, NY, then served as confidential law secretary to the Honorable Henry W. Lengyel in Watertown, NY.

Returning to Poughkeepsie, Bob joined Guernsey, Butts & Walsh, a leading local firm, eventually becoming partner and later managing partner of that firm and its successor, Guernsey Butts Ostertag & O’Leary. He opened his own law office in Poughkeepsie in 1995, moved his practice to Millbrook in 2014, and joined with Josh Mackey in 2016 to form what would become Mackey Catania & Whalen, LLP.
A fourth generation Dutchess County attorney, Bob is proud to carry on a strong family tradition of legal and civic service to the community.
