After an accident, most people think they have plenty of time. In Utah, the clock is already running. ⏲

Most injury claims: generally 4 years
Wrongful death: generally 2 years
Claims against a city, county, or the state: notice is typically due within 1 year

With winter ice comes more accidents, often in exactly the situations where deadlines are shortest.

No car involved? You may still have a claim. 🚲

Bike accidents can be caused by a pothole, faulty brakes, a loose dog, or another cyclist. The claim may just go against a different party than most people expect.

One thing to know: Claims involving a city or state road in Utah require formal notice within one year. Don't wait.

Most denial letters are written to sound final. Many of them aren't.

The reason printed on the page is usually a summary of the insurer's position, not the full story of your claim. And because insurers aren't required to make a denial easy to understand, it's easy to take one at face value and walk away from something worth pursuing.

Before you set it aside, it's worth having someone read it with you: what's being asked for, what's missing, and whether the reason holds up.
