As nurses, we're told to document like we might have to defend our charting in court someday. Meghan Collins actually had to.

Collins, a day shift ICU nurse at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, testified on Monday, August 3 as a witness for the Commonwealth in the trial of Lindsay Clancy, a former labor and delivery nurse charged with murder in the deaths of her three children in January 2023.

⚖️ What she did on the stand
Collins began caring for the patient on January 25, 2023, and described the critical condition she observed: sedation, intubation, visible injuries, and post-extubation ICU delirium that required restraints. Her testimony stayed precisely inside the boundaries of what she personally observed and documented.

Within days, the nursing community turned her testimony into a viral teaching moment about how to represent the profession accurately and stay within your scope, even under enormous public scrutiny.
