When a serious crash happens, determining who was at fault is only one part of the equation. Another important question is whether the available insurance is enough to cover the injuries and losses.
In one of our firm's cases, a truck driver was forced off the road during a road rage incident. One responsible driver carried only minimal insurance, while another fled the scene. Fortunately, the driver's employer carried uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage, making additional compensation available when the at-fault drivers' insurance fell short.
That additional coverage ultimately resulted in a recovery of more than $1 million.
Cases like this highlight why it's important to look beyond the at-fault driver's insurance policy. In catastrophic injury cases, every available source of coverage can make a meaningful difference in a person's recovery.
