Funkshion: Fashion Week Miami Beach is a four daylong platform for innovative designers emerging on the scene showcasing their cutting edge designs in venues around Miami Beach. Funkshion is a thrice-yearly event (October, March and July) and is free to the public. The competition is open to fashion, swimwear and accessory designers 21 and older and Funkshion has discovered some seriously stylish talent in the past. Winners of the competition are given the opportunity to show their line at Swim Week in Miami and win a trip to New York Fashion Week. As with every season, since the inception of Funkshion, the general public is encouraged to attend. The best part is that it's free. However, you must RSVP at Funkshion's website (www.funkshion.com).

Mad Hatter Arts Festival: Nov. 19-20
Head to the Barnacle Historic State Park in Coconut Grove for the annual Mad Hatter Arts Festival featuring a vintage artisan marketplace and a participatory drum circle. There will also be a screening of the classic movie, Alice in Wonderland at 7 p.m. on Sat. Nov. 19. Good fun for the whole family!

Coconut Grove Seafood Festival was a real adventure this year! First off, it wasn't held in Coconut Grove. They inexplicably moved it to Marine Stadium at Key Biscayne. Then the skies looked like they were going to open up any minute most of the day. We lucked out and missed the downpour that afternoon!
