Chris Brown faces a maximum sentence of three years in prison after pleading guilty in a London courtroom on Friday.⁠

According to BBC, the 37-year-old singer pleaded guilty to a charge of affray over a 2023 altercation at Tape London nightclub in which he was accused of hitting a music producer, Abraham Diaw, with a tequila bottle — what prosecutors called "a vicious and unprovoked attack."⁠

An affray charge is when a person uses or threatens unlawful physical violence toward another person in a way that would make a normal, reasonable bystander at the scene fear for their safety.⁠

Brown had initially denied the allegations, but pleaded guilty to affray in exchange for prosecutors dropping the charges of assault, attempted grievous bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon.⁠ Brown’s friend and vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, pleaded guilty to the same charge.⁠ ⁠
