Darina has been practicing photography for ten years. In that time, her lens has captured cities around the world, famous faces, and her beloved dog, Patti.
For Ciao, Darina shares her story of life in Berlin through photos of familiar and favorite places. Save this post to see the city through the eyes of a creative spirit.
• Jacob-und-Wilhelm-Grimm-Zentrum
A library at Humboldt University, recommended by friends as a great workspace. We finally visited before New Year’s to reflect on 2024, and it’s now one of my favorite spots. The student vibes, beautiful architecture, and quiet atmosphere are perfect for focused work—just get there early to grab a seat!
• La Fève
A cozy café near Treptower Park, apparently run by the French. They serve incredible fresh croissants, great coffee, and the interior is all about vintage furniture—just the way I like it!
• Flea Market on Boxhagener Platz
A vintage market at Boxi, close to our home. On Saturdays, we love to explore the street food stalls, and on Sundays, it’s all about hunting for unique vintage treasures.
• Museumsinsel
The Museum Island is a special place for me. Despite its touristy vibe and crowds, it’s breathtakingly beautiful early in the morning when it’s quiet. The stunning architecture makes it one of my favorite spots for photoshoots.
• Monbijoupark
A small park near Museum Island, perfect for summer picnics. Once, while strolling there, I discovered a secret courtyard with little gardens—my dream spot for a birthday celebration.
• Weinerei Forum Weinbar
We stumbled upon this wine bar during our first months in Prenzlauer Berg, near Zionskirche. Turns out, it’s a favorite among our friends too. Natural wine for €7, delicious quiche, and a stylish crowd—what’s not to love?
