FIU Law Clinics

FIU Law Clinics Where FIU law students meet real-world law practice. Increasing access to justice for South Florida community members since 2004.

It is well-established that experiential learning is the hallmark of clinical education. FIU Law’s Clinical Program provides students with the opportunity to enhance their understanding of core legal and ethical principles by applying them in the context for which they were formulated. The program thus has been designed so that students confront problem/situations in which they must assume the law

yer's role. The clinical program adheres to a client-centered approach, requiring the student attorney to visualize her/himself in the client's circumstances. This approach allows students an opportunity to explore the various roles attorneys assume in society, including trial attorney, transactions attorney, interviewer, negotiator, counselor, mediator, facilitator, community builder, legislative advocate, and officer of the court. Under the close supervision of an experienced attorney(s), student work through professional practice situations. Available Clinics:

- Business Innovation & Technology Clinic
- Carlos A. Costa Immigration and Human Rights Clinic
- Community Lawyering Clinic
- Death Penalty Clinic
- Immigrant Children's Justice clinic

Last Thursday, our law school hosted the FIU Law Path to the Legal Profession (FIU Law Path) Signing Day and Closing Ceremony. FIU Law Path offers to undergraduates, pre-law programming that builds skills critical to both success in law school and throughout the application to law school process. This year’s theme: The Value of Hard Work, Discipline, and Entrepreneurship. Thanks to our guest speakers: FIU Law Dean Antony Page, FIU Law Alums: Karim Batista and Chanelle Artiles, and FIU Law Path Scholars: Ms. Dahlia Despradel and Mr. Jose Sanchez.

During the event, The fifth cohort of FIU Law Path Scholars received certificates for their completion of the program’s first phase. The chosen law schools include CUNY Law, FAMU College of Law, FIU Law, Harvard Law School, New England Law – Boston, Marquette University School of Law, Rutgers Law School, St. Thomas University College of Law, University of Miami School of Law. So, proud of these students as they take the next step forward, moving closer to realizing their dream of becoming an attorney.
