AFSCME Local 199

I want to let you know that your calls to your county commissioners, your help to spread the word of our important work online and, most importantly, showing up to meetings when possible, made the difference. If you were there or watched on TV, you saw Local 199 members out in support of their coworkers, who were there, in their uniforms, to testify about the importance of the work they do.

When the Miami-Dade commissioners narrowly passed a $14.3 billion budget for 2027, it did not include cutting up to nine jobs of AFSCME Local 199 members.

Let’s keep it going! If you are wondering how you can help, make sure to ask a non-union coworker to sign up…and if you are not yet a member, what are you waiting for? More voices in our union will allow us to do even more. And remember, dues will once again be deducted on each Miami-Dade County pay date.

Balancing the budget on the backs those who keep our neighborhoods safe and clear from the environmental, health and economic impacts of illegal dumping is not the answer!

Our union is committed to showing up in strength at the budget hearing tomorrow. We will be making clear that this is not something we are going to swallow and move on. We are going to speak up for every single one of our members and their jobs.
