Stephan Lopez Law Firm Stephan is a former prosecutor for Miami-Dade County, the largest prosecutor’s office in the State of Florida and the 4th largest in the nation.

We are a small local firm that focuses on the following practice areas: Criminal Defense, Personal Injury, Property Insurance Claims, Commercial Litigation, Civil Rights. He has worked many cases ranging from misdemeanors to serious felonies and career criminal cases as a prosecutor. Stephan also serves as a Special Assistant Public Defender, handling a variety of serious juvenile and adult cases,

including career criminal and murder cases in both Miami Dade and Broward Counties. Bringing that expertise to private practice, Stephan offers defense representation in a variety of criminal cases including: white collar defense, organized fraud, mortgage fraud, drug trafficking, drug sale, drug possession, robbery, burglary, aggravated battery, resisting with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding, and other serious felonies and misdemeanors including DUI, assault & battery and resisting an officer without violence.

I just settled my oldest Hurricane Irma claim. Two law firms rejected this case because it was a late reported claim (owner was not living in the home at the time of the loss), the home had forced placed insurance, the carrier's defense firm is a top 50 law firm in the US and the claim required about 6k of up front costs. The client had all but given up hope that he would ever recover enough money to fix his roof and the rest of his beautiful Miami Lakes home.

I also got the EMS company all the money for their work remediating the damage to this home.

Since hurricane season is once again upon us, please remember that you pay for property insurance to protect your property in the event of a loss. But the process of filing a claim often leads to having to fight your own insurance company to restore your property to its original pre-loss condition, and that can be a very burdensome and difficult process which often requires an experienced attorney to fight for your rights!

Part Time or Full-time summer Law Clerk Job Posting:

The Stephan Lopez Law Firm is a small local trial firm based in Miami Lakes, Florida that focuses on the following practice areas: Criminal Defense, Personal Injury, Property Insurance Claims and Commercial Litigation.

The firm handles matters in both state and federal court across the State of Florida and also handles state criminal appeals and post-conviction matters. We are looking to hire one or two part-time law clerk(s)/ law student(s) for the summer of 2021 and potentially the fall and spring of 2022.

The job duties include but is not limited to preparing correspondence, papers, and documents of a legal nature such as exhibits, legal pleadings, notices, and discovery requests. The clerk will work directly with the managing attorney of the firm and in some instances with co-counsel of an outside firm, managing cases, that are in pretrial, trial and post-trial modes.

The clerk will be responsible for legal research and writing. They will assist with the preparation and drafting of motions, pleadings, notices, agreements, subpoenas, correspondence, and other documents. Other responsibilities include tracking the dates and deadlines for responses and discovery requests. Organizing paper and electronic files. Keeping files current.

Excellent writing skills. (we value simple, to the point, and effective writing). Researching legal and nonlegal issues that impact a case. Researching case law and statutes to come up with solid legal arguments.

The clerk must bill for all work in Smokeball software and will be responsible for E-Filing, sending electronic service of court documents and handling inquiries of a legal and often confidential nature.

Job Qualifications:

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree • Second Year Law Student preferred •Excellent writing skills and Excellent communication skills • Organizational skills and must be able to multitask and prioritize assignments • Analytical skills • Strong code ethics • Self-Starter • Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
