Back Behind the Podium 👨🏻‍🏫
Did you know I was a law school professor? It’s true! Here’s the story:
After I left the traditional practice of law in 2014, Nova Law School invited me to teach a subject of my choice. Naturally, I jumped at the opportunity.
But in reviewing the existing course catalog, nothing stuck out as something that truly sparked my interest. So, I told the university that I was incredibly grateful for the opportunity – but I would only teach under one condition:
I wanted to create the first Social Media and the Law course in the country 👨🏻‍💻
They were a bit skeptical at first. Creating a course from scratch was a lot more difficult to secure university approval. But I advocated strongly for the importance of teaching law students how social media affects the law, their clients, and how they can use social media effectively in their practice.
A couple months later, I was standing behind the podium teaching my first class as an Adjunct Professor of Social Media and the Law. A dream realized ✨
I no longer teach regularly, but I look back at those days fondly. I hope my students took something useful away from our class 🥲
Over the last two semesters, my friends at Seton Hall Law School asked me to teach three classes about what it’s like to be a world traveling social media lawyer. Seeing those wide-eyed law students across the virtual podium brought back such wonderful memories and reminded me what a gift is to teach the next generation something you’ve learned along the way.
It truly is special to be Back Behind the Podium, even for a moment 👨🏻‍🏫
