I wanted to let all of our FB followers know about some exciting news for The Bollman Firm. On January 1, 2017, the firm will be joining The Kullman Firm, a 45 attorney employment and labor law firm with its main office in downtown New Orleans, Louisiana and six branch offices in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. I will become a Member of the Firm and head a new Immigration Law Section for The Kullman Firm.

The Kullman Firm was founded in 1946 with a focus on one area of practice - labor and employment law on behalf of management. Our practices are very closely aligned as both firms focus on assisting management in navigating through the laws and regulations of federal administrative agencies. I have worked with The Kullman Firm over the past few years assisting some of their clients with immigration matters and believe that this merger will benefit all of our clients.

I will continue to handle the same types of immigration matters that I have in the past. Additionally, I will have available to me the resources of a much larger firm, which I believe will be a benefit to my clients. The Kullman Firm is conveniently located across the street from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services New Orleans Field Office.

This just announced settlement with the DOJ demonstrates the importance of making certain that HR staff has training in the anti-discrimination provisions of the laws related to the Form I-9. Likewise, written I-9 Policies and Procedures that include policies related to the anti-discrimination provisions of the law are critical for a business to maintain I-9 compliance.

Massachusetts-based janitorial service American Cleaning Co. will pay $195,000 to settle claims that it unlawfully required specific documentation from workers who are non-U.S. citizens in violation of the Immigration and Nationality Act, the U.S. Department of Justice announced on Monday.

People are always so excited when they are sworn in as a U.S. citizen. But it is even more exciting when a Presidential election is coming up and they will be able to vote for the first time!

In three ceremonies on Friday, 685 people were sworn in as Americans, the latest in a national wave preceding the presidential election.

Louisiana driver's licenses and state identification cards will now be compliant with the federal REAL ID Act. So Louisiana residents will not have to worry about using their Louisiana identification with TSA at airports once they obtain and updated driver's license or identification card from the OMV.

BATON ROUGE – Beginning Monday (Oct. 3), the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles will begin issuing REAL ID-compliant driver’s licenses and identification cards.

Employers need to make sure that their Form I-9s are in order because the fines for I-9 violations are going to increase effective August 1, 2016.

Fiscal Year 2017 H-1B filings exceeded last year record high number.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said Tuesday that it received more than 236,000 H-1B petitions for skilled foreign workers in only seven days, breaking the record set last year for the highly popular visa, according to an agency spokeswoman.
