South Pier is a planned $1.8 billion mixed-use development along the south shore of Tempe Town Lake near Rural Road. The full project includes 2,300 apartments, 160 condos, 520 hotel rooms, plus office, restaurant and retail space.

The project is planned across seven phases over 15 years. Plans also include lakeside open space, park improvements, a public pier and a pedestrian bridge, with the pier and bridge requiring additional approvals.

Scottsdale is exploring a new way to prepare for potential Colorado River water reductions. About 70% of the city’s drinking water currently comes through the Central Arizona Project.

The concept could involve putting some of Scottsdale’s advanced purified water into the CAP canal system in exchange for CAP water from another participant. No agreements or partners have been announced, and the city is still evaluating whether the idea works legally, technically and financially.
