The Philippine Supreme Court just made it easier and cheaper for Filipinos seeking recognition of a Foreign Divorce. There is no more need for the Petitioner to prove the applicable foreign divorce law.

The process of having the Petitioner or authorized representative go to the foreign national library or custodian of the foreign divorce law records, photocopying them and having them notarized and authenticated/apostilled is such an expensive and time-consuming exercise that only those who have the resources can successfully comply with such procedural requirement.

This is very welcome amendment to the Philippine Rules of Court.

Thus, client's unlawful presence in the U.S. (for more than 30 years!) is now forgiven and he can apply for a Green Card at the US Consulate of his home country. The next step is a Visa Interview.
