You're probably not going to get this, but let's talk about it anyway....

Sole Custody means ONE parent has all decision-making rights to the children, and has about 70% or more of the physical custody of the children.

It basically "gives" the child to one person, and that is NOT typical, so don't go telling your group chat and your Mama 'nem that you're gonna get sole custody. Chances are, unless you are dealing with a miscreant, you're not.

The arrangement that you're probably going to get is joint legal custody and one person being named the primary residential parent. NOT the same as joint custody. Sorry.

Ever wonder what a divorce lawyer really does?

Most people think it's just arguing. Truth is, it's quite the opposite. I spend a lot of time calming people down - especially my clients. The truth is that lately, I've been so busy it feels like my firm is spinning on its own orbit and I'm struggling to catch up. I've been in court almost every day for the last two weeks, and this coming week is no different.

Family law is "loud". For me, something is ALWAYS happening. But, for my clients, it can often feel quiet. They can feel like I'm not listening or like I'm not there. And THAT is the gap that we struggle to bridge at Psonya Hackett Law. The bridge between getting the work done and keeping the hands held.

A divorce lawyer does a LOT. But, we do it all for the clients who trust us. This week, I'm out fighting the good fight, but the goal is to let my people know that I'm still here.

A long time ago, my Husband and my Brother bought me a billboard. It was a show of faith that I could make it in Memphis. They think that all these years later, I've forgotten, but nothing and I mean NOTHING makes you work harder than people believing in you. The second time around, I'm buying billboards for myself. One for now...but keep an eye out.
