In Vampire Weekend's song "Oxford Comma," the band asks, "Who [cares] about an Oxford comma?" On Monday, the First Circuit Court of Appeals answered unequivocally that it does. The Appellate Court ruled that a statute requires dairy workers receive overtime pay for work related to "distribution." The reason: the lack of an Oxford comma created an ambiguity that had to be resolved in the workers' favor. Sometimes it pays to use the serial comma.

I was fortunate to be named once again as a Super Lawyer in the area of business litigation. It was just three years ago I started my own firm. I remain greatly appreciative of everyone's help and support.

The federal judge I clerked for just certified a RICO class action against State Farm for "secretly subvert[ing] the judicial process" when State Farm secretly bankrolled an election for an Illinois supreme court justice who later reversed a $1 billion judgment against State Farm. This case should provide great insight into how large companies affect and manipulate democratic elections.
