How does bail work? Most people are granted bail when they are arrested, except for certain crimes. If you decide to hire a bail bondsman, they can ask for an asset to be security for the entire bond amount in case you "skip bail."

The usual amount owed to the bail bondsman initially is 10% of the total bond amount. However, that amount can be higher in some cases depending on the circumstances.

This is actually a common drivers' license issue! Most people do not know you have 30 days to get a Florida license if you are establishing residency in the state. If you fail to do so, there can be legal consequences!

Injunctions. We most often hear them referred to as restraining orders.
It is reasonable to want an injunction put in place by a judge to protect yourself. In Florida, there are different types of injunctions ranging from stalking to domestic violence.
To be successful, however, there are various requirements that must be met. There can be severe consequences for the person on the other side if they violate the injunction order, so it is important for the injunction to be adequately proven.

What happens when you think your soon-to-be ex-spouse is hiding money so that you do not get any of it after divorce?

If you are arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence in Florida, you will likely have challenges to face involving your driver’s license.
The Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) can suspend or revoke your driver’s license. To get your license back, here are a few things you may have to do:
• Pay fees and fines,
• Complete DUI school, and
• Obtain and show proof of insurance.

Do you and your spouse agree on absolutely everything? There’s a chance you don’t. Then what happens if you decide to get a divorce? You will have to attend mediation.
It is required that you and your spouse attend mediation in family law cases that are contested. You will have to meet with your spouse, their attorney (if they have one) and a mediator who can be court appointed or private.
Ultimately, mediation is more cost efficient for both parties than court hearings and a trial. You will have the opportunity to sort out what you both want and hopefully come to an agreement that works for both of you.

Did you know… for your child support amount to change, there must be at least a 15% change in amount from the support you currently receive?
Even if your ex-spouse starts making more money and you make less, your child support could then be LESS than what you currently receive.
It’s always important to have an attorney who looks at the details of your financial situation before you ask the court for a change in your child support.

We’ve probably all seen enough about the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial on social media lately. Have you noticed they have been showing a LOT of text messages, videos, and recordings?

That might be allowed in Virginia, where their trial is, but Florida’s laws do not allow you to record someone in a private setting without their consent. So, if you’re having a domestic dispute, be sure to not rely solely on recordings for your proof in court. These recordings, without the other person’s consent, might not be admissible as evidence.

Remember, don’t text anything you would not want to be read out loud in court!
