This year and the years to come are the years of the less-earning or non-earning spouse! The new tax law will affect those getting divorced after December 31st 2018 - meaning, your divorce will be signed after December 31st, 2018.

No longer will the payor spouse (the one paying alimony) be allowed to deduct the amount paid for tax purposes. He/she will be taxed on the full amount of his/her income, and the payee spouse, who is receiving alimony, will not be taxed on the alimony that they receive.

I wanted to post this because a lot of people are afraid to leave their spouse because they're not the one who makes the money. To be honest, whether you know it or not, you're actually in the superior position a lot of the time.
