⚠️ Ignored by the Big City Law Firms? ⚠️

You don’t need a six-figure case to get our full attention and respect. We do things differently. At PYYLAW, justice isn't about the size of the case. It’s about helping our neighbors in our community!

Many clients have told us that the big city firm said that their case wasn't worth enough. That means an altered life was put on the back burner...or ignored completely.

At our small town law firm, while we can't take every case, the smaller cases are just as important because behind every case is an injured human!

We helped resolve a back injury claim for $50,000. For the client, it helped him get through his workman's comp case, and move forward from his injuries!

We entered this prompt into AI: "Write a Will in Pennsylvania that leaves my estate to my wife and then my four children."

Here's part of the response:

ARTICLE II: PAYMENT OF DEBTS AND EXPENSES
I direct that all of my just debts, funeral expenses, and the expenses of my last illness be paid by my Executor as soon after my passing as reasonably convenient. I further direct that all estate, inheritance, and transfer taxes due by reason of my death be paid out of my residuary estate.

ARTICLE III: DISPOSITION OF PROPERTY
A. Primary Beneficiary (Spouse): I give, devise, and bequeath all the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, of every kind and character, both real and personal, wheresoever situated, to my spouse, [Spouse's Full Legal Name].

B. Alternate Beneficiaries (Children): If my spouse does not survive me, I give, devise, and bequeath my entire residuary estate to my four children, [Child 1 Name], [Child 2 Name], [Child 3 Name], and [Child 4 Name], to be divided among them in equal shares.

Per Stirpes Provision: If any of my children do not survive me, but leave surviving descendants (children of their own), then the share that deceased child would have received shall be distributed to their surviving descendants by right of representation (per stirpes). If a child passes away before me leaving no descendants, their share shall be divided equally among my remaining surviving children.

BUT - AI misses the mark, and this Will would likely be a disaster:

1. AI does not ask about or account for minor children, who cannot legally own or manage property in PA. Significant extra cost will be required if court approval is required for any aspect of the estate.

2. AI does not ask if any beneficiary is disabled. If the beneficiary has special needs and inherits assets, that beneficiary would be disqualified from public benefits until they spend their inheritance.

3. AI does not ask what assets a person has. Not all assets go through probate per the Will. Assets with surviving designated beneficiaries or a surviving joint owner(s) pass directly to that survivor(s). This Will could be largely meaningless if the majority of someone's wealth (think IRAs, 401Ks, joint property) has named beneficiaries or joint owners.

4. AI does not ask where inheritance tax money should come from - should the Estate pay it, or should each beneficiary? Here, the Will says the Estate pays it, but as in #3 above, there may not be enough money in the Estate to pay the tax bill, so each beneficiary would be stuck paying the tax, even if that means cashing in an inheritance, which can have its own tax consequences.

5. AI does not advise in proper legal ex*****on. Improper ex*****on can invalidate the entire Will, and that means that PA law then controls who gets your stuff, who serves as executor, etc. That's probably not what you want.

6. etc, etc, etc.

LET PYYLAW HELP! If you've had a Will, POA, or other estate plan document prepared by AI, let our EXPERIENCED, LOCAL HUMAN estate planning lawyers review it to see if it actually does what you want.

Ready to roll? 🚲

May is National Bicycle Safety Month, and with the warmer weather bringing more neighbors out on two wheels, it’s the perfect time for a safety tune-up!

PennDOT and safety partners are reminding everyone that "sharing the road" is a two-way street. Whether you’re behind the wheel or on the saddle, let's keep the ride smooth and safe:

DRIVERS: Generally, drivers must give cyclists at least 4 feet of "breathing room" when passing. It’s not just polite—it’s the law!

CYCLISTS: Stay visible, follow the rules of the road, and remember that in PA, helmets are required for all riders under 12 (though they’re a smart move for everyone).

EVERYONE: Eyes up! Distractions down!

Let’s make sure every journey ends safely. See you out there! ☀️🚴‍♀️🚗

Not Every Legal Case is a Battleground 🤝

It’s easy to assume that legal work is always an ugly, bitter fight. We see it in the movies and on the news, but the truth is often much more human. At the end of the day, there are real people on both sides of every case—whether it’s for the injured worker or the insurance company.

At PYYLAW, we've learned that when you lead with professionalism and respect, you can reach a fair resolution without the unnecessary drama.

We were recently reminded of this after settling a workers' comp case. Our injury team received some wonderful feedback from the insurance adjuster:

"You made it simple, hope all [attorneys] down the road are nice to work with like you were."

We appreciate the kind words. We take pride in fighting hard for our clients, but we also strive to continuously be the kind of firm that keeps the process moving forward with integrity. It’s nice to know that a little kindness goes a long way.
