Roth Jackson is incredibly pleased to announce that effective January 1, 2024 Genevieve Bradley was elevated to join the equity members of the firm. Gen joined the firm following her graduation from George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School in 2011 (then GMUSL) and immediately began supporting the firm’s diverse practice areas. She made “partner” in 2018. Gen shares that landing her first attorney position with the firm was one of those stars-aligning moments. She says the firm has supported her growth as an attorney and litigator, giving her access to serious work for amazing and brilliant clients, while also giving her the space to parent two young kids, coach youth sports, travel, and binge watch plenty of good TV. Gen joins fellow owners Mitchell Roth, Joseph Jackson, Andrew Condlin, Sean Gibbons, Caroline Browder, Jennifer Mullen, and Joseph Bowser. Congrats, Genevieve!

The FTC has long been focused on safety when it comes to marketing and advertising to children. COPPA was designed to protect the privacy of children under the age of 13 by setting guidelines for the collection, use, and sharing of their personal information by websites and service providers.

Proud to report that the dynamic duo of Roth Jackson’s litigation team ( Bradley) and real estate and land use team ( Mullen and Kyle) garnered a great win for a wonderful client. Roth Jackson brought a specific performance claim against a Virginia county and its Board of Supervisors when they tried to back out of an agreement to sell property to our client. Then, Roth Jackson defeated the County and BOS’ demurrer and plea in bar, prompting a quick resolution of the case. Our client closed on the property last week.

But what exactly are Dark Patterns?

In 2022, the Federal Trade Commission released a report (“Bringing Dark Patterns to Light”). In this report the FTC outlined how companies used special design practices and techniques called “dark patterns” that “trick or manipulate consumers into buying products or services”.
