I’ve always had a lot of respect for public defenders and the work they do—especially after seeing how the system actually plays out in real life.

The gap between how the system works and what people understand is very real.

Because here’s the thing: most people are handed these roles with zero guidance… and expected to just figure it out.

Not tonight.

Tonight was questions, clarity, and real understanding about how to handle money, make decisions, and do this the right way (without creating bigger problems along the way).

People ask what I do, and this is it.
I built Taproot Law around something pretty simple: helping people understand and handle their own legal situations.

That can look like a coaching session, a fill-in-the-blank workbook, document drafting or review, or a workshop in the community.

Most people don’t need a full-service lawyer for everything. They just need the right information, at the right time.

That’s what this is.

Had a great time with Rebecca Bartelme - My UP Mornings discussing legal coaching, fill-in-the-blank documents, and our workshops.

Our next workshop — School for Trustees & Power of Attorney Agent — will be at Peter White Public Library this Wednesday, March 25 at 6 PM. This is a practical, plain-language workshop on what it actually means to serve as a POA or trustee — and how to handle those responsibilities properly.

Most people don’t mess up being a Power of Attorney because they’re bad people.

They mess up because they’re overwhelmed… or unsure… or trying to hold everything together.

I tend to see the same patterns:

-Not keeping records
-Becoming more private or guarded
-And sometimes—slowly stepping into power and control instead of acting in someone else’s best interest

None of this happens overnight.
It’s gradual.

And most people don’t even realize it’s happening.

That’s why this role is harder than it looks—and why people deserve better guidance going into it.

I’m teaching a class next week on how to actually handle being a POA or trustee in real life.
