How great would it be if earning a good living was as simple as putting in an application, getting the job, and receiving the desired pay? With the competitiveness of today’s job market, many people experience difficulties in landing a job.
For this reason, simply receiving an interview is celebrated as an accomplishment. Once an individual secures the job itself, the hard part has still yet to come. For many people, salary negotiation is a simple part of the process. For many others, it is the most difficult.
In an ideal world, all job seekers would receive their desired salary. However, that simply isn’t the case for blacks and Latinos. Both groups face the most pushback during negotiation and are statistically offered less than their white counterparts.
In fact, just to obtain equal pay, Latina women would have to wait until the year 2224, while black women would have to wait until the year 2130. Despite the social advancements throughout the years, the racial wage gap is still a prevalent issue faced by blacks and Latinos alike.
