Week 4 of the firm's Season of Giving BACK highlights the work being done by Providence House in Burlington County.

This organization treats the long-lasting impact and trauma around domestic violence and abuse. Domestic violence is a serious public concern and its effects can be both immediate for families and at the same time far-reaching on the community. But meaningful solutions exist through prevention, education, and access to support services.

Providence House is "a nonprofit agency dedicated to providing mental health, poverty-reduction, and social and crisis services to individuals and families, especially those affected by trauma and adversity." It "seeks to end the cycle of domestic violence through education, empowerment and advocacy while providing a safe haven from abuse." Support plays a key role in helping victims find safety and a path forward.

So as we close another year of the firm’s annual initiative of giving back, we are grateful to everyone who has shared kind words of encouragement with us in recent weeks. We are proud to support and recognize the tireless work of the many nonprofit organizations and countless volunteers close to our community who make a meaningful difference every day of the year.

We also want to express our sincere gratitude to all of the clients we are privileged to represent. Thank you for the trust you place in us to support both your legal and business goals. We are proud to partner with you and to support your success at every stage of your business.

Happy Holidays to all and we wish everyone a successful New Year!

Week 3 of the firm's Season of Giving BACK includes a familiar name for the tremendous work it does for families of seriously ill children, especially during these times when families are struggling with rising costs of living and worries around affordability.

The organization we have chosen to spotlight in our community is the Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey ("RMHSNJ").

For over 4 decades, the RMHSNJ has been known as "a 'home-away-from-home' for families whose children are hospitalized or in treatment." Not only are there 390 Ronald McDonald House Programs around the world or that its facility in Southern New Jersey is equipped with over 20 bedroom suites for families of seriously ill children, but RMHSNJ has Family Rooms in 9 South Jersey hospitals. This can be a vital lifeline for family members and loved ones who may need to "take a moment for themselves to rest and refresh while remaining on their child’s hospital floor."

Helping families of sick children stay together is important work and part of what can make a community strong and resilient. RMHSNJ's mission is to provide "hope, help, and home" to these families during an understandably vulnerable and emotionally difficult time when their child is ill and in need of critical medical resources.

Week 2 of the firm’s 2025 Season of Giving BACK highlights an experience many of us have had, whether as players, supporters, or maybe simply enthusiastic spectators. We are of course talking about - youth sports.

Youth sports teach tremendous life lessons, how to function in the framework of a team, and maybe most importantly how to respond and rebound from a tough setback or defeat to keep driving forward. Today, no matter how a person views youth sports, it all comes down to one common challenging denominator - making sure that cost does not keep kids from an opportunity to play.

Good Sports "drives equitable access in youth sports and physical activity, by supporting children in high-need communities to achieve their greatest potential, on the field and in life." This organization "exists to make sure cost doesn’t keep kids on the bench." This goal will no doubt open more doors in the future, giving many young athletes the chance to play and more to the point strengthening the communities they will one day lead.

At XPAN Law Partners, giving back is more than a tradition. It's a commitment to strengthening the community we’re proud to represent and be a part of. As we kick off the firm's 2025 4 for 4 Season of Giving BACK, we’re reminded this event is not about us giving or recognition for our very small part in a larger movement of people working to uplift our community. But it's simply about giving back and gratefully acknowledging all that we receive from the community that surrounds us.

We're honored to spotlight this year's 4 + 1 incredible nonprofit organizations whose dedication and year-round impact makes everyone stronger, safer, and more connected. We hope you will be inspired by their work and consider supporting causes that you know also make a meaningful difference to people every day.

The first pair of organizations are (1) Philabundance and (2) South Jersey Food Bank. Instead of 1, we picked 2 organizations to begin the firm's Season of Giving BACK because the need to fight against hunger has never been more urgent.

Philabundance states its "mission is to drive hunger from our communities today and to end hunger for good." In addition, South Jersey Food Bank states it "exists to provide an immediate solution to the urgent problem of hunger by providing food to people in need, teaching them to eat nutritiously, and helping them to find sustainable ways to improve their lives." Both organizations continue to stand up for those who are vulnerable and work tirelessly to "deliver hope to our neighbors who are food-insecure."

Rounding out the firm's "4 for 4 Season of Giving BACK" is the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen, or TASK.

TASK "serv[es] 10,000 meals per week at nearly 40 locations." Their "mission is to feed those who are hungry in the Trenton area and offer programs to encourage self-sufficiency and improve the quality of life for [their] patrons." In addition, one of their guiding principles is advocacy and leadership - continuing to focus on "be[ing] a leader in informing the community about hunger and advocating for programs and policies to alleviate hunger and food insecurity."

Adding an educational component to a community-based initiative is key to overcoming and in time solving an urgent need.

So as we wrap up another year of the firm's 4 for 4 Season of Giving BACK, we hope our small-scale contribution in light of the important and enormous work being done everyday by tireless people in our surrounding community will inspire others to seek their own meaning of giving, whether it be financial support, time and effort, or maybe simply a word of encouragement to anyone seeking a better course forward. More so now than ever, global thinking is in need of local, community action to spark a rising conviction of a better tomorrow.

Thank you to all of those who continue to support this firm and who have over the last few weeks read our posts about giving, sent us words of support, or simply given us a like this holiday season.

We wish everyone Happy Holidays, Season's Greetings, and look forward to celebrating an eventful and prosperous New Year with you!

Childhood poverty is a serious nationwide issue and a year-round problem, which is why the firm has chosen to highlight Cradles to Crayons Philadelphia and the urgent work they are doing as part of the firm's "4 for 4 Season of Giving BACK."

We recently highlighted that Philadelphia is considered to have the highest poverty rate among the 10 largest cities. According to Cradles to Crayons Philadelphia, 3 in 5 children in Philadelphia live in poverty. Cradles to Crayons Philadelphia works to fill critical but often overlooked needs like basic items for children.

The mission of this organization is simple. It "provides children from birth through age 12, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive – at home, at school and at play. [They] supply these items free of charge by engaging and connecting communities." Likewise, their vision is that "[o]ne day every child will have the essentials they need to feel safe, warm, ready to learn, and valued." Certainly an important effort impacting both now and the future. Poverty at the worldwide level cannot be solved without first putting in place practical, hands-on initiatives at the local and community level.

If you know, then you know about the United Way and its mission to end poverty, especially in Philadelphia. It is also one of the reasons the firm has chosen it as part of its "4 for 4 Season of Giving BACK."

Philadelphia's poverty rate has been noted by the Philadelphia Inquirer in an article published only a few months ago as the highest among the country's 10 largest cities. The United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey has been trying to change that with its mission being "to end poverty and expand opportunity for all" and seeking to improve the lives of children and families in the Greater Philadelphia region.

"With a 100-year legacy of driving change, United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey plays a unique role in breaking down barriers and creating more opportunity throughout our community." Their vision is "to live in a region where poverty does not exist and every person in every community can thrive." Seeking to end hardship and creating more opportunities takes a shared and unified effort that starts with the community and can affect a larger world view.

The first organization that the firm has chosen to highlight as part of its "4 for 4 Season of Giving BACK" is MANNA.

Hippocrates is generally credited as saying, "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food."

MANNA stands for Metropolitan Area Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance. According to its Mission Statement, it "uses nutrition to improve health for people with serious illnesses who need nourishment to heal. By providing medically tailored meals and nutrition education, [they] empower people to improve their health and quality of life."

MANNA incorporates "evidence-based nutrition services, bringing together dietitians, chefs, drivers, and thousands of volunteers to cook and deliver nutritious, medically appropriate meals and provide nutrition counseling to neighbors who are battling serious illnesses such as cancer, renal disease, and HIV/AIDS. From hands-on cooking classes and nutrition counseling to the delivery of 3 meals a day, 7 days a week, MANNA provides nourishment, hope, and healing to the Greater Philadelphia area, Southern New Jersey, and beyond."

Once again XPAN Law Partners is excited to announce that over the next several weeks, we will highlight through social media and donate to 4 nonprofit organizations making a difference in the lives of those in need in our surrounding community as part of our "4 for 4 Season of Giving BACK." It is our way of saying thank you to the unrelenting workers and volunteers in the community who live adamantly by the motto that no matter how small your contribution or energies may be, every effort matters and can make a positive impact on someone.

We recognize our very small part in a much larger mosaic of support for those who tirelessly make an impact every day. We are proud to be able to at least recognize and support a fraction of these vital organizations. It is also the reason we have renamed the firm's "4 for 4 Season of Giving" to include the word "BACK," appreciating that it is not just us giving to these worthy organizations but being grateful for what they have given already to the people of the community.

The firm has a brand new article out for the summer published in the Law Journal on how tech should be working synergistically (and immediately) with during a cyber breach.

Time is of the essence in the very early stages of a breach. There is too often a delay bringing in the right legal team (right away), which can potentially be a costly miscalculation.

Because the clock is ticking, we waste no time in challenging businesses to rethink a common mistake that cyber breaches are exclusively a tech problem.*

Week 4 next week of the firm's "4 for 4 Season of Giving" wraps up with a nonprofit organization based in Camden, New Jersey - Hopeworks Camden.

The power of technology combined with youthful imagination equals limitless possibilities. Being able to focus on real-world technical training and learning skill development can be a game changer for young people seeking opportunities in the growing and evolving tech field.

According to its mission statement, Hopeworks Camden emphasizes that "[w]ith a focus on skill development, real-world job experience, and trauma-informed care, Hopeworks propels young adults into long-term living wage careers that put them on the path for healing and financial stability.”

"Hopeworks provides a positive, healing atmosphere that propels young people to build strong futures and break the cycle of violence and poverty in Camden, New Jersey." It further states that it "connect[s] young adults to life-changing opportunities where their growing technology skills go to work for enterprising businesses within our community."

This organization was also featured in a Inquirer article published on October 19, 2023, written by Lizzy McLellan Ravitch and titled - "Camden nonprofit uses AI tools like ChatGPT to help young people prepare for jobs."

So as we bring to a close this year's "4 for 4 Season of Giving" (a nod to Philadelphia's passion for sports, and you know if you know), we conclude with our message from 1 year ago.

We hope everyone can find their own measure and definition of giving to a cause of helping others, whether it be financial, giving of your time, or maybe simply words of encouragement. We certainly continue to be inspired ourselves by the outstanding and generous work we see others doing in our own community and beyond, including many other businesses and firms, to give back to those who need support and maybe simply a chance to realize a greater potential. In our view, solidifying communities through local action has never been more important to global thinking and sustainability. One spark can inspire endless possibilities.

From all of us at the firm this holiday season, thank you for your partnership and continued support for what we do. We wish you Happy Holidays, Season's Greetings, and look forward to celebrating a prosperous New Year with you!
