7 things to do when your body changes the plan
1. Call it a low-capacity day early Waiting to feel worse can turn a manageable day into a full crash
2. Keep only your non-negotiable anchors Medication, food, hydration, and one urgent need are enough for today
3. Postpone before the list starts judging you Move what can wait out of today so unfinished tasks stop taking up energy
4. Add recovery between obligations An appointment can be the whole plan when travel and symptoms use your spoons
5. Use a plan that can shrink with you Tend scales your day to your capacity instead of asking you to push through
6. Choose the next easiest supportive action Lie down, eat something simple, send one message, or set up what tomorrow needs
7. Let rest count as part of the plan Pacing now protects energy for the basics later, not just productivity
A bad day doesn't need fixing. It needs a plan that meets you where you are

my adhd brain doesn't need
a color coded life reset
at 2 pm on a tuesday

it needs one instruction
that's small enough to start

put the cup in the sink
send the one reply
pick tomorrow's clothes

one step isn't cheating
a plan, it's how i get moving again

a flare-day plan isn't a smaller normal plan
start with safety before tasks, check what keeps you stable today: medication, food, water, pain relief, and a place to rest
name the limit choose a capacity level honestly, because planning for imaginary energy turns every unfinished task into unnecessary guilt
pick one next step make it concrete and tiny, like sending one message or heating one meal, so your brain has somewhere gentle to begin
let the rest wait moving nonessential tasks out of today protects your energy and proves a changed plan is still a plan

Hustle culture had me treating every slow day like a debt. So I started planning around the energy I actually have on Tend. A smaller list, rest on purpose, no streak to protect. And honestly, it feels better than pretending I can push through

advice for the day
when opening your planner
feels emotionally impossible:
don't make yourself catch up
just find today
write down water, meds,
and one thing that matters
then close it if you need to
you're allowed to return
without explaining where you went

things to stop asking of yourself on flare days
a normal plan: it was written for a body with different capacity. you don’t have to force today to look like yesterday just because the list is still there
a full reset: you don’t need to abandon the whole day because symptoms changed the plan. Tend lets you scale down without making every unfinished thing your problem
your usual pace: pushing through pain or brain fog isn't the only way to be responsible. choose the smallest version of what needs care, then protect the rest of your energy
the perfect recovery routine: you don't need the ideal meal, shower, walk, journal, and meditation session. medication, water, and one gentle next step can be a real plan
the guilt: how much you get done during a flare is the least interesting measure of your day. Tend is built to meet your capacity, not argue with it

can we normalize opening a planner after disappearing for a week without preparing to be punished?? I WANT A PAGE THAT DOESN’T KEEP SCORE. no red flags, no missed streaks, just today, a little room to breathe, and permission to start soft

5 burnout myths that make planning feel like punishment
1. rest has to be earned rest isn't a reward for finishing everything. waiting until the list is clear means recovery never gets a real place in your day
2. every missed day needs catching up a missed day usually means your capacity changed. rebuilding yesterday's plan before starting today turns recovery into a backlog
3. streaks keep you motivated streaks can make a hard week feel like failure. consistency can also mean returning gently whenever you have enough energy
4. low-energy days dont count a smaller day still supports your life. medication, food, one email, or lying down can be the whole plan and still be enough
5. you need a fresh monday to restart you can begin again on a wednesday at 2pm with one realistic next step. planning should meet you where you are, not where you were
