82 years ago today the Empire of Japan carried out a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor Naval Base Hawaii. 2459 people were killed. Many more were injured. My Uncle Wayne was there and he along with many others fought the war that followed. They were and are the "Greatest Generation."

Galaviz v. Reyes, No. 22 50203 (United States Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit, October 11, 2023):

The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas refused to order the return from Texas of two children to their habitual residence in Mexico because the children were not getting free public education in Mexico. The Fifth Circuit reversed, holding that the court essentially made a custody decision, i.e., who should have custody based on which country would offer a “better” education.

Most days practicing law can be incredibly stressful and emotionally taxing. But some days you get to help a couple of great people adopt the most adorable little 5 year old girl.

Thank you to Judge Patricia Baca Bennett for putting up with me when I get flustered because I get so emotional during these ceremonies.

Once this darned COVID is over we’re all coming down to your courtroom and taking pictures.

Another day in Tarrant County and another excellent settlement thanks entirely to an outstanding (and unbelievably patient) mediator Judge Bill Harris. Rather than having to wait another year for a trial, both parties can sleep tonight knowing they put this year long ordeal behind them.
