Presiding Judge Kevin C. Brazile signed an order effective immediately restricting courthouse access to authorized parties only through June 22, 2020. Access to all Los Angeles County Courthouses has been limited to Judges, Commissioners, court staff, and authorized persons until further notice.

Access to all court proceedings (including arraignments, preliminary hearings, motions, or trials) is hereby restricted to parties, attorneys, witnesses, and authorized persons. All criminal misdemeanor cases involving out-of-custody defendants have been continued for 90 days. Bail review hearings for all misdemeanor or felony pretrial detainees has been deemed a priority matter on the court’s calendar for the next 60 days.

Social distancing will be enforced in all courtrooms and courthouses to the extent possible, but the risk of exposure to COVID-19 still remains for any in-person appearances. Budris Law Group will continue to appear on behalf of their clients so that they can avoid possible exposure in crowded courts. As of March 23, 2020, 536 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Los Angeles County and 7 within the county have died. Protect the health of yourself and your family by retaining counsel to appear on your behalf.

Please see below for an important message from Budris Law Group regarding legal representation in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic:

As some may already be aware, Los Angeles Superior Court Presiding Judge Kevin C. Brazile has issued an emergency implementation order which has closed the courts of Los Angeles County for three court days, from March 17-19, 2020. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟬, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟬 𝗳𝗼𝗿 “𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀.”

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟬, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟬 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝟭𝟲, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟬, all courtrooms will remain closed except for time-sensitive, essential functions including: Civil Temporary Restraining Orders, Family Temporary Restraining Orders, Riese Hearings, Search Warrants, 𝗔𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀, 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘅 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀, 𝗕𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗕𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗕𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄, 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀, 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀, 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗦𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀, 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗝𝘂𝗿𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, and, under certain circumstances, Criminal Jury Trials.

Budris Law Group understands the importance of social distancing in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and recognizes that many may fear an appearance in court will jeopardize the health and safety of themselves or loved ones. Budris Law Group is available during these trying times 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗳 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆. Budris Law Group is actively working for their clients so that their legal representation is taken care of and they do not have to appear in court where there may be possible exposure to COVID-19.

COVID-19 is an emerging respiratory disease which poses increased risk to certain populations, including older adults and persons with severe underlying health conditions. The Center for Disease Control has confirmed the best way to prevent illness is to avoid exposure to the virus. The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person contact through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes. By retaining adequate legal representation such as Budris Law Group, your retained counsel can appear on your behalf in court, saving you from possible exposure in crowded courthouses. Budris Law Group has and will continue to advocate on behalf of their clients to ensure any clients in custody are kept where the risk of exposure is lowest; including limiting client appearances at hearings if necessary.

Given the current uncertain state of the judicial system in Los Angeles County, if you are facing criminal charges or are involved in a criminal matter, Budris Law Group recommends immediately seeking the advice of an experienced criminal defense firm and is available and welcomes your calls and messages. Budris Law Group is actively working to represent their clients during the COVID-19 pandemic to limit individual exposure and risk to possible disease.
