The railroad whistleblower statute was enacted in 2007 to prohibit railroads from retaliating against railroaders who report on-duty injuries or safety hazards. The firm has tried and resolved cases before juries in New Orleans, Louisiana, and in Courts from Houston, Texas to as far north as Washington, D.C., and as far south as West Palm Beach, Florida. The firm has obtained favorable jury verdicts in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Texas and Virginia. Saunders and Joseph Miller published articles in the Loyola Law Review where they each served as Managing Editor during their legal education at Loyola Law School in New Orleans, Louisiana. Saunders serves on the Loyola Law Alumni Board of Directors and teaches Railroad Law at AAJ Railroad Law section meetings. Moreover, Joseph Miller has had his article on Railroad Law Preclusion cited by courts nationally. Saunders is now Designated Legal Counsel for the SMART TD (formerly the United Transportation Union). Saunders and Joseph Miller have been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers. In addition, Ben B. Saunders has been listed in the Top 100 Trial Lawyers by the American Trial Lawyers Association. Joseph Miller was recently listed in the 2015-2016 Super Lawyers Rising Star List in Louisiana.
