More insurance advice. I highly recommend purchasing an umbrella (excess liability) policy which adds coverage on top of both your auto and homeowners. If you purchase one, it also automatically covers you for uninsured motorist coverage UNLESS you actually sign a waiver to opt out. Never ever ever do that. You want to protect yourselves. Any insurance agent who would offer you that option is incompetent. Then, if you are injured by an uninsured motorist, you are covered up to $1.25 million. If you have small liability limits (minimum in NH is $25,000), being injured by a negligent uninsured motorist can leave you in desperate financial straits.

Auto Insurance Advice: In my personal injury practice, I see far too many people who are grossly underinsured. Having good auto liability insurance is not only critical to protecting your assets against claims, but also to protect yourselves and your families from negligent uninsured or underinsured motorists. This is all the more important in NH since auto insurance is not mandatory or required. I recommend liability / uninsured motorist limits of at least $250,000 per person and $500,000 per accident, and that you strongly consider a $1m umbrella to add coverage to both your auto and homeowners. You should also have medical payment benefits of at least $5,000 regardless of whether or not you have good health insurance. Having good auto insurance is so important given the high cost of medical services and devastating impact of potentially being out of work with an injury caused by a negligent or drunk driver. If you have any questions about this or anything related to auto accidents, injuries or liability insurance, please contact us and we are here to help. Have a Happy and Safe 2026!

If you have been in a car accident, these are important things to do immediately if possible: (1) Call the police; (2) Don't tell the police you are not injured if you don't know - symptoms often arise later or the next day; (3) go to the ER or urgent care to be checked out, take an ambulance if offered or suggested; (4) Take photos at the scene if possible - or have your passenger do so; (5) follow up with your P*P or a specialist within a day or so of the ER visit; (6) don't rush back to work if you are injured - use sick days if necessary; (7) alert your own auto insurance company right away; (😎 call an experienced New Hampshire injury attorney within a week to help submit all claims property and preserve evidence. I have been specializing in auto cases and all types of injury cases in New Hampshire for 40 years, and would be happy to provide an initial consultation and representation.

I recommend all to all my clients AND friends to purchase an UMBRELLA 0R EXCESS POLICY to layer $1,000,000 on top of the coverages in both your auto and homeowners policies. This protects your assets in the event that you are in a catastrophic accident that is your fault. Perhaps just as important it provides the additional $1m to you in uninsured motorist coverage in the event you or a family member are badly injured yourselves in an accident with an uninsured motorist. This uninsured motorist coverage is automatic in NH by law UNLESS you waive it in writing - which you should NEVER do. You save a whole $10 or so by doing so, and perhaps lose a million. That has happened to several of my clients in the 2-3 years - heartbreaking. Call your auto insurer today and add the umbrella for the safety of yourself and your family.

Springtime Insurance Advice for Motorcycle Owners: To all my biker friends out there, Spring in coming, and you will be taking your bike back out on the road if you haven't already. Before you do, make sure you have motorcycle insurance and that it is active and in effect. Too often bikers either do not have applicable insurance, and if they do they take it off in the winter and sometimes forget to activate it in the spring. This can have catastrophic results in the event of an accident with an uninsured or underinsured driver. And, while you are at it, check your bodily injury and liability limits. Motorcyclists are vulnerable to serious injuries in auto accidents, and far too often they have only $25,000 limits. That barely covers the emergency room. Raise those limits to a minimum of $250,000 / $500,000, and the limits should match the limits on your car or truck. Any questions, just message me or give me a call.

Be Careful of Surprise Hospital Bills! If you are in an auto accident and are taken to an Emergency Room in a hospital, either for a few hours or a few days, be VERY careful of the hospital's billing procedures. This is especially true for Medicare or Medicaid recipients. Hospitals will wait until it is too late to bill your health insurance, and try to get 100% of the gross bill paid from your injury case settlement. Why? Because Medicare and Medicaid only pay about 20c to 25c on the dollar. They would rather sue for 100%. Be very careful, insist multiple times that the hospital bill your health insurance, cover yourself in writing, and as always, you should contact a good personal injury lawyer if you are ever in an accident that is someone else's fault.
