Balance, burnout, and support matter — especially in family law practice.

Burnout doesn’t usually come from one big moment. It builds over time through heavy caseloads, constant deadlines, and the responsibility of supporting clients at some of their most difficult moments.

This reflection from a VFNLaw paralegal highlights why support, professional growth, and being heard matter — not just for staff, but for clients as well.

VF&N Partner Bradley Marshall has been elected to a three-year term on the Virginia State Bar Criminal Law Section Board of Governors.

The Criminal Law Section—one of the VSB’s largest—brings together prosecutors, defense counsel, judges, and academics to support and advance the criminal justice system across the Commonwealth.

The Prince William County Bar Foundation and Prince William County Bar Association recently hosted the 26th annual Beat the Odds Scholarship awards banquet to recognize the accomplishments and resilience of 18 local graduating seniors and 4 rising seniors with over $40,000 in scholarships and awards! These tremendous young people have persevered through daunting circumstances such as delinquency, truancy, abuse, neglect, behavioral health issues, substance abuse, foster care, and so much more, and have extremely bright futures ahead! Since its inception, this program has awarded more than $500,000 to provide brighter futures for at-risk kids right here in our own neighborhoods, while improving the community at the same time!

The event was co-hosted by VF&N attorney and PWCBA President Stephen Lofaso, and VF&N's Bradley Marshall and Robert Zelnick also serve with Stephen on the PWCBF Board of Directors. Vanderpool, Frostick & Nishanian, P.C. was proud to sponsor a scholarship again this year - congratulations to our winner, Eliana, and good luck at ODU as you pursue your dream to help others as a therapist!

Many organizations are already using AI in day to day work — often without clear guardrails.

A recent federal decision highlights why unmanaged AI use can undermine privilege and create discoverable materials in litigation.

We’re proud to see Jaclyn Hawkins Doherty featured in the National Federation of Paralegal Associations, Inc. (NFPA) quarterly magazine, The Reporter.

In her article, “The Power of Being in the Room,” Jaclyn highlights the value of connection, professional growth, and the impact of stepping beyond your day-to-day environment to engage with the broader paralegal community.

It’s a thoughtful reminder that some of the most meaningful career insights come from shared experiences, conversations, and simply showing up.
