The Trump Administration plans to revoke the B1 and B2 tourist visas of around 200,000
people, which if materialized, would be the largest single mass revocation of visas in US history.
They suggest some people who have come to the U.S. under one of the above tourist visas
have been using it as a gateway to claim asylum. In a long list of immigration crackdown tactics,
an administration member said that they were teaming up with DHS to identify who has been
applying for asylum who also entered as a short-term visitor to remain in the country
permanently.

According to some members of the AILA, there have been reports of scammers pretending to
be attorneys, judges, and USCIS employees. They have been charging people extortionate
amounts of money (upwards of $10,000) to “help” people to get their loved ones out of ICE
detention.
When doing any business in immigration law, always make sure the person you’re speaking to
is accredited: ask for a bar number from attorneys, check for business websites, and call offices.
Check the addresses you are sent to make sure you’re not arriving at a fake courtroom or law

On July 17, 2026, the Trump Administration made a change to the student visa process,
affecting the period of stay in the United States for international students in F status. According
to the American Immigration Council,
“After September 15, 2026, foreign students and
exchange visitors will be limited, based on their program length, to the end date of their specific
program, or four years, whichever is shorter, plus a grace period of 30 days (down from 60 days
for F-1 students under the previous rules), to depart the United States, apply for an extension if
their program end date is more than four years, or pursue a different option to remain in the
United States.
”
This means that people that are students, journalists, or anyone else under an F immigration
status will have to apply for an extension of their stay. The rule also creates more hurdles for
students to obtain a study visa.

What is a Temporary Protected Status?
According to the American Immigration Council,
“It is a temporary immigration status provided to
nationals of specifically designated countries that are confronting an ongoing armed conflict,
environmental disaster, or extraordinary and temporary conditions.
” The Secretary of Homeland
Security has the power to decide when a country meets these conditions to be considered a
country that can be given the TPS designation.
